I will have to disagree
It is 1490 miles to my nearest In-N-Out and I would pay serious money to be able to teleport and have my favorite double cheeseburger (mustard only -- don't judge
) and an order of fries well-done.
Sigh.

I prefer a mix of onions on my burgers. Often chopped up but raw... or maybe the "crispy" type It gives the burger a texture and does help keep things interesting.
As for sauce... you would likely not like my subs. Lately preferring no sauce or sauce on the side (they always put too much, even if you ask for less). It makes the bread soggy and mushy.

absence makes the heart grow fonder. I remember being absolutely giddy when they opened an I&O near me (before that it was maybe a half hour drive and then long wait in line so not exactly fast food) and now that it is available all the time I don't go often at all! Partly because I try to stay away from most wonderful goodies like a double-double and a shake and partly because I know it is there and not a big event. . Sometimes I try to settle a craving with a single cheeseburger (grilled onions). It is one of my go-to apres colonoscopy stops if the line is short.

I do like the burger with grilled onion, juicy & sweet. But messy as hell. On this occasion, we consumed the burger inside our car.
About those fries, it was slightly too crispy for me (personal taste, I like it kind of limpy). I don't use ketchup!

I tried my first IN&OUT in Jan of this year. I had heard all the hype and was interested in seeing for myself. Food was good but I was more interested in how they ran the store. Very efficient and clean. We ended up going to the one near the Anaheim Convention Center 3 times during my son's volleyball tournament there.

Well-done fries animal style is the only way to go, but sometimes I ask for no cheese because then it becomes a congealed mess--especially if you get it to-go (and my drive is only about 15 minutes). I suppose I could chuck it under the broiler to re-melt the cheese. Or maybe I'll sprinkle something on them that's a little better than American cheese...

Having been abroad the last couple of weeks, I will of course go seeking cheeseburgers this weekend. In & Out animal style might just hit the spot, an order of fries (always have to ask them to fry it longer to ensure it's crispy), and a shake to wash it all down.

I didn't know about this thread when I visited my first In-N-Out Burger, at Pleasanton, CA in February 2010, as a pedestrian. My wife and I would return many times over the next 8⅔ years living in nearby Dublin.
It made enough of an impression on me that I commented on it in another thread four months ago, discussed in the ten subsequent posts. Observations on the San Francisco metro area currently?

There is an option for "light sauce", which is what I order now.
