However having yolk hard and white soft doesn't seem to be the same as a soft boiled egg. I am sure you could have them with soy sauce, I have no doubt other options are available. Always up for a new thing though. You never know till you've tried it. Given I will be staying in mainstream hotels (not Onsen) in JP I don't know if this egg style is easily available or even how to order it at places that might. My last abiding memory of Japan was being given an egg (raw in shell) along with my breakfast and not knowing what the heck to do with it
(I know now)

But I generally like my best meal of the day to be breakfast and it doesn't seem to come up much so I thought it might be nice to generate a thread to discuss it,
Personally I have had about three breakfasts that I would call 'great'.
Hotel Granvia Kyoto champagne breakfast
Hotel National Moscow top room service offering
Claridges London 'a la carte'.
I know the folks on this forum will have seen and eaten more than me, so I ask you... Where is the best breakfast in the world?
Just returned from Granvia Kyoto and I agree, outstanding breakfast. The lounge buffet at the French Concession Hilton in Shanghai was excellent, both the Chinese and Western selections, but alas the hotel is gone....

Unfortunately Onsen are not easy for me due to a lot of ink.
If you can make HHonors Diamond by next year, the Tokyo Hilton offers a free authentic Japanese breakfast at their (otherwise expensive) Japanese restaurant on the second floor. Outstanding experience. We stayed twice, took them up on it both times, brought back the "menu" to show our stateside friends. We will be back.

Sadly I won't be getting diamond status. It appears you can't actually book that breakfast and suites only come with executive lounge breakfast on 37th floor. Shame

  2. Macadamia Nut Pancakes from Hawaii
  3. Kiribath (Milk Rice) from Sri Lanka
  4. Huevos Rancheros from Mexico California
  5. Croissant with Brie Cheese from France

What works best for a productive day for me would be a dinner-for-breakfast type breakfast. Steak and eggs, dim sum, a full European spread of smoked fish, pickled herring, sausages, charcuterie, cheese etc But I can never say no to local favourites such as dosas, Parisian croissant, scotch egg, a NY/Montreal bagel, steamed rice-noodle rolls from a hawker cart with hoisin and toasted sesame sauce, a shiao-bing or roti filled with beef or lamb, chives and egg from a hawker stand at the market.

I had the yummiest freshest made-to-order tacos at a beachside cafe in Belize once.

A couple weeks ago my wife and I were on vacation in London. One day we had breakfast at the Wolseley. I had “The English”, which was quite spectacular. We also had breakfast at St. John Bread and Wine which was also wonderful. Had toast, butter and preserves, Scotch woodcock and a St. John donut.

Not sure if they had it at the Wolesley but years ago, on several occasions I had porridge with for breakfast at Gidleigh Park in Devon. Its porridge (oatmeal) with single malt whisky on top. Its a great way to start the day.

Veggie omelette (mushrooms, broccoli, onions, tomatoes and red peppers ideally, along with Swiss cheese)

Hot salsa for above, along with Texas Pete hot sauce

Hash browns

Sourdough toast with blackberry jam, or alternatively Bob Evans biscuits with honey; IHOP pancakes with butter pecan syrup puts it over the top

Plenty of Italian roast coffee

See, I knew there was a reason I was wasting time eating the hotel's free breakfast when I was in Taipei earlier this year!

You made me Google Dan Bing; I believe a local Taiwanese beer bar offers it (as "scallion pancakes with eggs") on their street food menu, and yes, it's absolutely delicious. I could totally go for that for breakfast.

And do you mean ice cold pizza?
