Texas de Brazil
Friends of ours have suggested that we venture about 2 hours from home to try Texas de Brazil. They drive a bit more than that fairly regularly to go there, and strongly suggested that we drive there.
Good idea, bad idea? Worth the drive, not worth the drive?

Never had a bad meal at Texas de Brazil. Service and food does vary from location to location, and I do prefer some locations to others, that statement applies to all chain restaurants. There isn't a location near where I reside, when travelling if there is a Texas de Brazil in the city I will usually make it a point of having a meal there. Go hungry, and be prepared to eat meat and lots of it.
Funny that this post comes up, just yesterday I was telling somebody who has never been to TX and will visit next month to go to Texas de Brazil.

I used to dine at the Turtle Creek location in Dallas >3 times week with my lawyer when I was doing Atkins and being sued in the late 90's (the litigation alone was a great weight loss mechanism, FYI). I enjoy meat. I enjoy skewers. It is a good combination.
I have noticed, however, over the last 5 years that they seem to have lost some of their attention to detail and service standards have slipped a bit. This is especially true at the secondary locations they opened throughout the country over the last decade. That said it is still an outstanding meal for a carnivore.
They generally are a bit cheaper than Fogo de Chao and have a better bar IMHO.
I have noticed, however, over the last 5 years that they seem to have lost some of their attention to detail and service standards have slipped a bit. While the experience is fun once in awhile, I have found that I would rather go for a good steak for slightly more money. With the economy the way it is, almost every top end steakhouse is having two dine for $99 these days.

I have enjoyed the one in Fort Worth several times and it is a good meat orgy. I do agree with the previous post that it is not worth a multi-hour drive. They are opening one this year at Station Square in Pittsburgh, so maybe wait. Then again mebbe ya just want a road trip.

I like Brazilian-style steakhouses. We have 3 in the Denver area and I have tried them all. I found Fogo de Chao was better than Texas de Brazil. Is one of those that is closer to you than 2 hours? I am not sure I would travel 2 hours just to eat at one. Also, try to get a coupon because they aren't cheap. If you find yourself in Denver during the last week of February/first week of March, try the ones here. The price is only $26.40 per person/$52.80 a couple. That is a significant savings over their regular price. Let us know what you think if you get to try it out. Just one final note: go hungry and avoid the salad bar. That leaves more room for the meats.

The issue I have with the churrascaria I've been to over the last few years is that they have certain key meats that they serve over and over, trying to get served the other cuts that are offered is sometimes near impossible if sitting away from the grill. The past couple times I have had to call the mgr over to state what cuts haven't made it to our table yet.
