Dom certainly isn't in the $50 range. Veuve works. I like Laurent Perrier, which is usually a bit cheaper.

I like both those but prefer Perrier-Jouet, which is also a bit cheaper.

I dont know how much youd pay in $, but the Louis Roederer and Pol Roger NVs are both excellent and in the 40-50 range.

Probably Taittinger or Billecart-Salmon, particularly if you can get their quite reasonably priced blanc de blancs.

Tons of great grower Champagnes for around $50. My go to if I can find it is Pierre Peters blanc de blancs grand cru.

I just had a quick look online at premierchampagne.com has the Brut Reserve on sale at the moment for $49.99. Millesima-usa.com has it for the same price.

I used to get the Blanc de Blancs at UK airports for something like 50-60GBP which for a while wasn't too far out of the $50 reach. Obviously this last month hasn't been a good one for US purchasing power.

Thank you. Unfortunately, my budget at the moment (unemployed--thanks, covid) doesn't allow for premium bubbles. That's ok...I can adapt!

Gruet is made in New Mexico in the methode champenoise and gets surprisingly high marks for its price point ($15-20ish).

I've bought it around $12 at my North Carolina Total Wine. It's not bad. Another cheap but good one is Cruse (French).

I would go for a sparkling Saumur. Bouvet Ladubay is widely available and perfectly acceptable - far better than Prosecco or cheap Cava.

Strange. I googled Bouvet and all the results were Bouvet Ladubay. www.bouvetladubay.com. I should imagine they are one and the same but the wine label would definitely be Bouvet Ladubay.

Champagne Question

I was given a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label several years ago (8-9+ years). It has been in my fridge every since. I have a function coming up on Sunday to celebrate a neighbor's retirement. Do you think it is still good? Or should I chuck it and get a new bottle of Veuve? Any advice would be appreciated.

Since it’s for a celebration in someone’s honor, buy a new one. You don’t want the potential of being embarrassed.
