Are flavours derived from actual essence, or formulated from scratch to resemble flavours, that have no derivatives to the taste?

They still rank as the best I've ever had.
Maui chips are great.

The ones I quoted are made using the ingredients from Heinz so I guess they were the Offical crisps, but you do get crisps that have the name and are made to taste like the actual flavour.

For example, in the UK we have crisps that are Vegetarian because they are made from ingredients that are not from meat. For example, you can eat "Steak and Onion"crisps if your veggie as it is made from chemicals made to taste like steak and onions but infact have no steak and onion in them!

Thanks for the clarification..

I didn't think that the simulated flavors were from the actual tasting food, but chemicals and ingredients combined to make it taste like its the real thing..

'Salt and vinegar' all the way. The only problem is that it's extremely difficult to find in most countries...
