I enjoyed copious amounts of Alabama brewed beer Saturday, BamaVol Jr. #1 lives in Huntsville and brought crowlers from 3 different Huntsville breweries to the family reunion: Salty Nut, Yellow Hammer and Straight-to-Ale. I was surprised at my favorite: Straight-to-Ale Watermelon Wheat. My son has been telling me that summer doesn't officially start until the first watermelon wheat is drunk. I'm not a fan of watermelon flavor but OMG, this stuff is delicious. |

Thanks but sometimes it's quality and sometimes its quantity. Tonight it's a little of both with a sale on giant 750 ml Foster's cans plus some Kirin bottles that taste best when super cooled in the freezer.
Although I will confess to buying a 6 pack in the last year of Coors original just to help me remember what life was like when I was 23. |
Got some Real Ale Brewing Company in Austin tonight. Like the Four Square Pale Ale but the Fireman's and Devil's Backbone didn't do much for me.

IMO Real Ale is kind of the weak link in Texas craft brews. If you're in Austin, look out for Austin Beerworks brews, they have some really good stuff. Their IPA is really good. I also like some of the Oasis beers (another Austin brewery).

Hopheads in Ohio should check out all the hoppy offerings from Rhinegeist Brewery in Cincinnati. Not a big fan of that city, but Rhinegeist's Crash, Truth, Hustle, Mosaic and Streaker have all been outstanding.

Ended up trying the following tonight:
1) Lone Pint Yellow Rose IPA 2) Hops & Grains A Pale Mosaic 3) Austin Beerworks Fire Eagle (thanks for suggestions krazykanuck) Lone Pint was one of the best beers I've had and Austin Beerworks was very good too. Hops & Grains wasn't as much my style but was still solid |

Bow Valley, again.

Drinking Peroni tonight. Not my favorite but I was enjoying a tasty bruschetta and penne puttanesca with sausage at a local Italian place.

River Valley Red Ale brewed by Alberta's Big Rock Brewery.

In sad local beer news, even though I'm not not drinking for now myself, Terrapin sold a majority stake to MillerCoors the other day. Preparing for much lower quality out of the wonderful Athens brewers, but we shall see.

Funky Buddha Blueberry Cobbler Ale and Fairhope Brewing Home S'wheat Home. The FB was a little flat and I did not care for a sour wheat beer whatsoever. But since I am a member of the Brew Crew at The Brass Tap, I chalked up 2 more on the road to 300.
