Drinking a Founders Backwoods (Son of an unwed mother) as we speak. My absolute favorite beer ever.

The taps at my favorite local music venue/fish taco house/bar are busted. Around here, business can be seasonal with many restaurants at the beach closing for the winter in November and reopening for the Spring Break crowds in March. This place caters more to locals and is a strictly outdoor operation with business winding down to an early January close and starting up again sometime in February. The rule is that when the temperature drops below 45, music is cancelled and the place closes for the night.
Anyway, after the bartender apologized and told me the taps were going to stay broken until February, she offered me a couple choices of IPA. I like Sweetwater 420. I drink a lot of it and it's one of 3 beers that are always in my fridge. I opted for the Sweetwater IPA. I've had it in bottles and thought it was okay. I've now had it twice in cans at this bar and I'm loving it. I'm not sure why I like the cans so much more but I do. So, there are currently 12 cans of Sweetwater IPA in the BamaVol beer fridge. |

Anyone interested in wood and barrel-aged beers should consider coming to Chicago for FOBAB (Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer) in mid-November. This is the best festival of its kind in the world and attendees will get to sample beers available nowhere else.
$57 with booking fee. You get 15 samples, which does not sound like a lot, but the average alcohol level is so high, believe me, you probably won't need more. And if you do, there are always people giving away their extras. Thank God for 110-pound women! Tickets go on sale 10 am today, I think Central Time, but not sure. I will be there Friday night as will at least one other FTer I can think of. http://www.ticketmaster.com/The-Fest...artist/2030119 They needed a few more volunteers and next year you'd probably get admission to one session for volunteering at another. Plus they don't monitor your consumption as a volunteer! |

This event concluded Saturday. Just amazing barrel-aged beers. If you are a fan of those styles, you should try to attend sometime. PM me if you want more info.

Is there any way to get a list of breweries (and their products) in attendance? Are only brewers in Illinois participating in this event? |
Ninkasi Sleigh’r Dark Double Alt
Pyramid Snow Cap Ale Pyramid Espresso Stout I had a few of the first two last night, and surprisingly preferred the Pyramid to the Ninkasi. I love winter beers! |
