I think this is pretty clear

This was in the initial post - I think this explains it pretty clearly, but I could be missing something in this discussion.

Beginning in 2010, rather than six systemwide upgrades, Platinums will now have the option of receiving four new systemwide upgrades or can choose from a set of optional benefits instead. For those current Platinum Medallions who earn the new Diamond Medallion status, in addition to the four systemwide upgrades, they will receive two additional choice-benefits including the ability to have six additional systemwide upgrades for a total of 10 systemwide upgrades.

So if you qualify for Diamond in 2010 and you select SWUs for Platinum and Diamond, you will get 10 total for 2010.

I didn't say it wasn't clear in some circumstances, but it's not clear in several other circumstances, as evidenced by the rampant confusion. And I wasn't talking about just PMUs either.

For example, if someone qualifies for DM with miles flown in 2009, do they get 6 or 10 PMUs in 2010?

If you fly at least 125K MQM in 2009, in February 2010, you will first be awarded 2010 Platinum status and if you choose SWUs as your option, you will get 4. When Diamond status is implemented in the Spring, and you choose SWUs as one of your two options, you will get an additional 6 for a total of 10.

Hope that helps! If you help me understand what other points of confusion there are, I will see if I can help get an answer. :)

That's one possibility, but I have not seen any place where DL says that is what will happen.

At least when you make plat in 2009, you get 6 PMUs
Then when you hit 125k - it is not a major level for 2009 - you only get choices already mentioned.
In spring 2010 you MAY get DM status, but not all DM benefits (e.g., I do not think you can gift gold in 2010 for 125k miles in 2009) the current rules of 2009 require 150k

Someone close this thread.

DL's "best in class" changes leading to "best in class" confusion is no reason to close this thread.

DL's "best in class" changes leading to "best in class" confusion is no surprise since DL management has been exploiting changes and change-related confusion for quite some time.

That's for the 2009 Threshold rewards. If you make 125K in 2009, then in 2010 you can gift Gold. As soon as you reach 150K in 2009, you can gift Gold when you redeem the Threshold rewards via the website.

I know, but they're in business as you know to make $. You appear to be bitter. Why does anyone that flies any airline expect all these neat perks from FF programs to be owed to them? Anytime one feels like they're getting a raw deal they owe it to themselves to move on. When the day comes that I feel that way, believe me I will move on. To me, that's supply and demand. Right now, I enjoy the upgrades therefore I will stay a bit longer.

Seems like about every 50 or so posts on this thread the same question comes up and finally gets answered and comes up again, then someone goes off on a rant.

Agree completely. I've moved away from top tier in two companies in the last five years as they changed their benefits and routes in manners that were unsuitable to me. Right now I am uncertain of some of the aspects of the Diamond thing but will stay with it for at least a year to see what is what. To again quote DeltaFirst:

As that is how it appears to you in your own admission, it appears that your senses must be deceiving you as I am not bitter. I am rather amused by Delta management's antics and how much support those antics get still.

If DL management wanted to be clear about things, they could have simply provided a specific date for the start of the Diamond program and also the dates on which current Platinums and those Platinums who have already hit the announced Diamond status criteria will be able to select their optional benefits which include the PMUs.

Good, I'm glad you're not bitter.

I would be surprised if you did not get all benefits - the standard has been that you accrue miles Jan 1 to Dec 31, then get benefits during the program year of Mar 1 to Feb 28, and as a 'courtesy' if you fly enough miles to make a higher tier than you are currently at mid-year, they raise your status as soon as you do so.

Well, let me rephrase. With DL, nothing would SURPRISE me, but not providing full benefits in the 2010 program year for accruals in the 2009 calendar year would be a significant change (technical issues aside).
