A DM choosing 6 SWU's will have TEN PMU's in total. That is if SWU's are ones priority.

Hope you're right; but, can you explain your math? This is what I thought initially, too; but, after reading and re-reading SkyMilesInsider's clarification posts, I'm not so sure now. I can't make a case for any current PM, who will start 2010 as a DM in waiting, to receive any more than 6 SWUs.

If one starts the Medallion year as PM then achieved DM, yes.

If one starts the Medallion year as DM, no. The DM will have two choice options of which 6 SWU's, SkyClub, Gifting GM, and Bonus Miles will be the available choices. 4 SWU's and 6 SWU's will not be available together.

This is my understanding...

Why would it say First if DL is only intending to be offering Business on its international flights? or is that perhaps just a way of including "premium" service transcons?
Yes, there is an obvious contradiction between DL.com and what has been posted here. As I has been said here, doing it for TATL fares makes sense but creating a trump card for domestic does not...

Now I am confused, I was neutral at best on this thing as I thought from what I read that DM would be 10 SWU's a year. If it is only 6 vs. 4 what the hell reason would I have to give DL all that extra revenue for a puny 2 SWU's (which I already had before), For an addition 6 (or 4 from before) it is interesting (at least for me).

Can someone give ultimate clarification on this please?

The way I understand it:

A) if you fly >125k in both 2009 and 2010:
  • You will get 6 PMUs in 2010 (since you made the DM min.)
  • You will get another 6 in 2011 (DM requalification)

B) if you fly <125k in 2009 and >125k in 2010:
  • You will get 4 PMUs in Feb. 2010 as PM, then another 6 when becoming DM; total = 10
  • You will get another 6 in 2011 (DM requalification)

Actually the way understand it is that as DM will not exist until spring, that if one qualifies as PM this year (2009), one is getting 6 PMU's irrespective of whether one gets DM or not, everything beeing announced is for the 2010 programme, we have all been flying and earning in the 2009 programme, and according to the rules and regs ond benefits, qualifying for PM in 2009 gets you 6 PMU's in early 2010. From when one arns in 2010, if one is Platinum, one will earn 4 SWU's and receive them in 2011 (or in 2010 if one achieves PM for the first time in 2010).

Irrespective of whether a DM gets 4, 6, 10, or 1000 SWU's, does it say anywhere that we are getting anything less in early 2010 based on our 2009 flying. In fact Delta has been very adamant over the last six months that nothing was changing regarding this years flying/earning, etc.

I agree the more I read the more confused I am becoming. There seems to be a lot of assumptions being made about a lot of things.

Not 12, the most you can get is 10. Your 2009 flying qualifies you for 2010 benefits at PM or DM level, which means max 4 for PM and 6 for DM.

The main issue is if you get the PM package in Feb when you qualify for DM in 2009, and a DM package in Spring when DM starts. DL website and the insiders posts on this issue are not clear and there is a need for clarification...

Well I must say I am confused as well. I thought it was 4 only and it sounded like PM's got zilch now. I am going to go and read this for my self.

Basically, the new SWU is the same as our current PMU except you can now use the SWU at the gate if a seat is available on the day of your departure. Platinums who select the SWU benefit will receive four certificates, and Diamonds will receive six. Some of you have asked why Platinums will receive fewer certificates in 2010 than in 2009. While you wont receive as many certificates as before, we think they should be more usable and rewarding because weve added the ability to use SWUs on the day of departure.

Choice Benefits: You guys are wondering how many choice benefits youll get to select if you hit Platinum and Diamond in the same year. The answer? Three. Youll choose one benefit when you reach Platinum and two when you hit Diamond. If youre already a Diamond and you re-qualify for Diamond status, youll choose two benefits when you hit 125,000 miles.
Also, From DL.com
"Customers reaching Platinum status and Diamond status in the same year will be able to choose 1 benefit when reaching the Platinum level and 2 additional when hitting the Diamond level.

Platinum Medallions will be able to select 4 Systemwide Upgrade Certificates as a Choice Benefit. Diamond Medallions will be able to select 6 Systemwide Upgrade Certificates as a Choice Benefit."

Basically, the only way to get 10 SWU's is if one goes from PM to DM in the same year. If you start as DM, you get 6 and you do not get to make the PM selection of 4 because you were never PM.

Based upon all of the information I have reviewed from RealDLInsider, SkyMilesInsider, and DL.com, this makes sense.

The only wild card I see is if the DM tier does not start for at the same time the 2010 Medallion Year does but sometime there after.

Once again, not the expert, but based upon the facts presented, this seems to be the most likely scenario...

Since I am already way above the DM requirement, I will only get 6. But I already get 6 as a PM. That means that I now have to get 125k to earn the same SWU's as I was earning at 75k.

I will now have to bow to the others on here and agree that the benefits have been greatly reduced.

I thought a PM got 6 (no change) and a DM got 4 (an added benefit).
But! A PM gets 4 (a reduction of 2) and a DM gets 6 not in addition to the 4 (hmmmm).

Welcome to DM, the new PM with a higher threshold.
