+1

The Ph.D's that I have come across who insisted on being called "Dr." were self-absorbed dummies. It is worse in academia.

Wolverine himself, no entourage, took as many pics folks wanted, girls, little kids--graciously spoke to everyone and started up convo with me. got on the train with everyone else--went to a corner and mingled at the request of a pax who wanted to introduce him to his wife and kids.'

Were the aisles on that plane actually wide enough for him to be "flanked?" Really? In order to be "flanked" there would actually have to be someone walking to his immediate side.

flanked: past participle, past tense of flank (Verb)
1. Be situated on each side of or on one side of (someone or something).
2. Guard or strengthen (a military force or position) from the side: "flanking towers".

This is an absolutely for sure? And you know this how? Would that mean you are in his Secret Service detail, or do you just stalk the flights he's on? ;-) (the wink means this is a bad joke!)

No ex-President EVER made an effort to not be a DYKWIA, without exception. There is a reason why President Carter has written 23 books, and it is not so that he can become less well known!

Extremely skeptical that the Secret Service would ever do or say anything even remotely similar to that!

It would have been near impossible to have been once considered the worst President in recent history when viewed through the same recent lens as the much worse Richard "Constitutional Crisis" Nixon. But, of course, the point is moot now, considering George W. Bush trumped them both! Either way, I promise you, Jimmy Carter never considered himself less than good or very good.

What political opinion? I was just replying to a bunch of previous posts. Did you bother to read them, or did you just see "President Carter" and decide that I must be being political?

Sheed Wallace on RDU to DTW, must have come down for a heels game. On a CRJ, so his knees were pretty much in his face.

I met Johnny Mathis at a Residence Inn in Mystic, CT (back in the late 90's). He was performing at a nearby casino for several weeks and wanted to stay in a place away from the casino that had a full kitchen, so he got a 2 BR unit at the Rez Inn. We met at the downstairs lobby one evening. He had come down to just relax and I was writing something at a table. We talked for a while. He was really nice and way down to earth. I was sorta shocked.

We met Hugh after his Broadway performance of Boy from Oz. The nicest, sweetest guy in the world. He is so gosh darned friendly. I don't think he has a mean bone in his body.

I met him when I was 19 years old. I was a camp counselor at a Lutheran camp and he and his wife brought his daughter, Marisa, there for middle school camp. Unfortunately, I just found out this past year that Marisa had been murdered some time ago by her boyfriend. Sad sad news. She was a very pretty gal. And one day, after church walk, she applied the Camel Clutch on me (true story) and I've never felt pain so intense. lol
