Wondering if you take the extension does that mean you are locked in and only get those choice benefits even if you qualify for another tier? If extend PM but hit DM, do you get the PM from the extension and DM choice benefit from qualifying for that?
Or what if you extend DM but pass the PM threshold - will you get the PM benefits choice then?

Delta has every reason to want you to qualify each year in addition to using your rollover MQM status, so I believe you would get both sets of Choice Benefits.

Stinks that Ill lose my PM CBs by extending my DM status. I like getting the 4 RUCs or giving 2 (used to be only 1) family members FO status.

I fly AI a lot. Never got food poisoning & the newly leased Delta & Etihad planes are as clean as any other good airline. Just flew BOM-DEL yesterday on the new 777-200LR & it was excellent.

Flying BOM-JFK-BOM in a couple of weeks, again on the new 777-200LR. Service, food & condition of the plane has been better than anything I've flown on DL lately.

Glad to hear it. However it's not like my comments are one-offs. A simple search in Google will show dirty planes and bad food are far from uncommon on AI. I may have gotten a dish I don't like, but never gotten sick from DL catering.

I wish they would make this clear in the FAQ. Maybe next revision. Until then, do I take it at face value? There's always some nuance that isn't covered in these terms.

That sounds strange....nowhere in ANY of Delta's documentation/information they have put out has it been listed it can only be rolled over for 5 years.

Are there really that many people with more than 724,999 MQM balance?

So there is the example in the terms that says, in part:

For example, a SkyMiles Member that has 550,00 Rollover MQMs and who has earned Diamond Medallion Status for the 2024 Medallion Qualification Year is eligible to extend their Diamond Medallion Status for up to 5 years (500,000 Rollover MQMs) and can elect to convert the remaining 50,000 Rollover MQMs into miles, MQDs or a combination of both at the conversion rates above.
Maybe that's where this idea came from and the agent misinterpreted it?

I know dozens of Diamond Medallions based here in India & in the Netherlands (we have 5 in our office). We were chatting the other day & generally all agree that Diamond is out of reach for all of us. Since taxes & fee are not included in the 28K spend, we would be looking at spending $35K-$38K a year just on international Delta flights to hit the MQD mark. That's just not happening.
Are you sure that airline imposed fees don't count for MQDs?

So they split the baby with CBs. So many people--and one blogger--thought they knew and almost nobody guessed this. (I did see one poster who had the correct information.)

Given that DL took great pains in the latest FAQ changes to distinguish between earned status and status extension, and earned would run concurrently and overlap with extended, it seems to make sense that DL would hold a carrot out to extended DMs to also earn PM. It will at least get me looking at how easy it would be for me to earn PM.

"For overlapping years, you will not receive a second selection of Choice Benefits": I wish DL would have added, "for the same medallion level." That would have clarified it.

BTW, is there any documentation from DL that none of the current possible choice benefits such as GUCs and RUCs will be discontinued and not available for selection after the new ones are added on February 1, 2024?

Airline imposed surcharges have consistently counted towards MQD. At any rate, it's been "almost impossible" for those of us who are US based to hit DM since DL jacked the Amex MQD Waiver spend threshold to $250K a number of years ago. The international folks had a good run, but it's not like it should be any surprise that DL would eventually end spend exemption given that UA and AA did so several years ago.

And a simple search will show lots of complaints about Delta.

Really you don't have to trash other airlines to support Delta, it's OK

My reading of this is if I extend my current DM status with 100k MQMs I will still not earn PM CBs even if I hit the 15k MQDs.

Here is how I am reading: lets say, if you extend DM status for 2025, you get DM bennies. In addition if you organically earn PM status for 2025 by hitting the 15k MQDs threshold, you will get PM bennies as well.

Now...what the FAQs state is that, say you then end up also organically earning DM status for 2025 by hitting the 28k MQDs threshold (i.e., there is an overlap between extended & organically earned status), then you will "not" get an additional set of DM bennies. IMO, this seems shortsighted -- DL/Amex could have easily incentivized continued spend for those with extended DM status.
