Yes maybe we have to wait until the exact time it is published and the articles will flow. When BA made their last big changes to reward redemptions (Reward Flight Saver for long-haul flights) they had primed one blog (God Save The Points) to spew out the propaganda and party line. Even after the obvious flaws with the new system (massive increases for non UK based accounts, devaluation of gold upgrade certificates etc) the blog carried on and was even arguing with their readers in the comments. One of the more respectable blogs Head For Points (who are active on FT) did cover it.

It is interesting to read the guesses here. Obviously most here are obsessed with status and decry the erosion of the rewards that used to be much more plentiful.

I have bad news for most here - it is going to get tougher to get status. A good number of people here will fall off the status rolls. Or DL will make a whole lot more money off of us to keep it.

Personally I am guessing I will have to choose between UA and DL if not next year, the following. I likely will not be able to maintain 1k and diamond status. I am fine with that since theoretically I would have better treatment on the airline that wins. The only way that happens though is to thin the ranks and get rid of the least profitable customers who have the highest status level. To put it another way, if you are in this as a "something for nothing" game you are probably going to lose.

It’s also possible that the same changes that make it harder for some to get status, will make it easier for others.

Hard to tell without real numbers that will never be released publicly, but there hasn’t seemed to be any meaningful drop in elites at AA after their switch to loyalty points. (Upgrade lists don’t seem to be any shorter than before, and on hub to hub flights you still have the usual 50+ upgrade lists.)

I have bad news for you - you have no idea whether this is true or not. You obviously want it to be true, but how exactly does it benefit DL to have fewer people who are loyal to them?

Why would you need to sell your stock? The obvious thing is that any changes announced tomorrow are going to be positive for DL, which would mean the stock goes up.
