My initial thoughts based on those details is that I will be dumping my DL Amex Platinum if it no longer has the option to pay to get into the Sky Club. I wonder what kind of retention offer I'll get. Maybe I'll get the Reserve if these changes coincide with boosted sign up bonuses, but I will have to think on that decision a bit when the full details are out.

Well the site just errored out. I think someone at Delta was a little clumsy with the "publish" button.
Lucky I screen captured it. Couldn't get the middle popup to go away however. Here's the details... https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e31e14dd25.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ea9422c939.jpg |
I would have to assume they will allow a run up period to accrue $75,000 in spend (similar to what Amex did with the Centurion club guest access).
[edit] Was writing this post while the screenshot was posted |
I wonder if they pulled it because the date for the 10 skyclub visits is wrong... Or OMAAT got it wrong in their article, one of the two.
edit: Seems to make sense that it will be 75k for unlimited access for the following year, so spending 75k in 2024 will get it for 2025.... |

Having the option to turn rollover MQMs into redeemable miles seems like the route I will go as I won't be chasing status any more. The conversion rate and any potential changes to the Million Miler program will dictate how much effort I put in to rolling anything over. I'm near 1MM and that might be my only path to status for the foreseeable future.

As with all the hotels and airlines now...don't care how much you travel with them, just how much you spend. All the mergers over the past 15 years caused the ranks of the elites to swell and the credit cards have made miles like water. This is simply their way of thinning the ranks so to say. It was a nice run being able to get elite status for frequently flying, and have relatively cheap award travel worldwide, etc. It was fun while it lasted. Now a very different landscape. I find it odd that many are predicting that business travel won't return to the high levels it used to be, but DL seems to be betting the house that it will. Time will tell.

The AA changes worked out well for me; we'll see about Delta |
Interesting. So does this make getting a DL Reserve strictly worse than buying a membership outright? That seems a bit backwards considering how other airlines handle it.
|
I am a bit surprised that they're not taking the opportunity to treat non-hub flyers (who generally will have lower fares because of connections etc.) better than hub-captives (who conversely pay higher fares). UA added the PQF consideration in order to prevent the elite population from being too hub-heavy.
It's also worth noting that revenue RDM earn and revenue-based status largely came in while oil prices weren't going up: this is the first time we've seen sustained upward momentum (disclaimer: I have some bearish long-dated put-spreads on $USO) in oil. |

Are you referring to the OMAAT article that released an hour ago? Because it says the MQM/MQS is going away and MQD will be the only thing.

On the plus side I am going to save a lot of money by no longer having an Amex Platinum card or bothering to chase anything related to Delta status.
|
Yikes. This is absolutely brutal in every respect. I see this as a complete over-correction for the Skyclub Crowding and saturated elite ranks.
|
Free agency or switching to oneworld especially given my recent London move ain't looking too shabby right now. Anyone seen anything in terms of qualification for international members because that's the only thing that'd make me stay with DL is if that were different.
