It might be an A350. It's BCN-ATL in June. I didn't claim in my post that it was a 767, but used this observation as a further piece of evidence that DL doesn't seem to have extra aircraft that are well suited for TATL routes and thus that I would expect the current 767 fleet to be fully utilized for higher priority routes than ATL-ANC.

Also ATL-ATH/TLV. Long routes where A330 can have issues, especially for ATH-ATL. They want to avoid repeat of two years ago, constantly having to stop in BOS/JFK for fuel/crew to continue onto to ATL.

Why would DL A330-200s have issues when doing ATL - ATH (4,954 nm miles) when the aircraft has a maximum range of 7,250 nm miles?

Delta doesn't serve food on 8 hour domestic flights in Y? Let me guess they do on 6 hour bos-lhr flights in Y.

It's just DL being a cheap skate. ATL HNL gets lunch and a pre-arrival light meal in Y.

I believe the maximum range is off. However the maximum range also depends on 1)the right engines for that and 2)thevright conditions.

At least in the configuration DL has during the hot summer ATH takeoff can be past those limits to go nonstop to ATL. Due to terrain at ATH they also need to takeoff at full power if I remember. Thus during hot summer month(s), ATH-ATL isn't doable. Two years ago they were making regular fuel stops in BOS/JFK due to this during hot August. Thus they've put the LATAM A350 on the route for now.

According to delta.com, the range of its A330-200 is 7,275 miles so I was fairly close.

The A330-200 has never done ATL-ATH and has too little capacity. The PMNW 330-300s struggle with ATH-ATL, and only the (relatively) recently delivered ones with the GE engines can do it without restrictions.

Also, like FlyerCO said a few replies back, the DL website's range figures are all over the place and aren't accurate or a generalization without considering engine type/configuration/weight variant/etc.

DL also inherited its A330-200s from NW so not sure why you wrote PMNW A330-300s when the -200s also came from NW.

-200s have 223 seats and -300s have 282 seats.

But thanks... I didn't know Delta's aircraft specs on its website were incorrect.

Because there are ex-NWA A330-300s and Delta ordered A330-300s. They have different specs (range, engines, weights) and the PMNW ones are the ones that struggle on ATH-ATL.
