Different confirmation numbers - will that affect us?

Yesterday I booked RT flights from HND to SEA for me, my wife, and daughter. Used my miles to book the flights. Because of problems with Delta website, I ended up calling the reservation agent to make the bookings. However, the agent initially misunderstood me and booked only a flight for me. When I realized what had happened, I explained to the agent that I needed 3 tickets, and she then booked my wife and daughter. Then, I saw that I had a different confirmation number than the one for my wife and daughter.

I'm Gold elite, so when I went to website after the bookings were made to choose seats, some of the seats in economy that were available to me were not available to them unless they paid extra. I called Delta again and explained the situation, and that agent kindly reserved seats next to me for wife and daughter for no extra charge. I asked if there would be any problems with different confirmation numbers but he said no there shouldn't be.

What if I'm offered an upgrade to Comfort + based on my Gold status? I assume my wife and daughter will not be offered that. Will there be other small inconveniences related to my Gold status benefits? Also, what about at arrival in Seattle? I have a US passport, while they each have a Japan passport. Will separate booking numbers show that we are traveling separate, which means that they cannot go through the same passport line as me or other complications?

Should I call Delta again to get us all on the same number? Or am I concerned about nothing?

Theres no way to combine reservations without cancelling all three and rebooking. You can always split, but never combine.

Overall I wouldnt worry about it - just make sure to bring them in the same lines as you and if anyone asks, you are traveling together. As a family you shouldnt have any problems.

I also would keep a close eye on the seats to make sure they stick. The agent probably linked the reservations, but in reality thats just a note in the internal remarks.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still within the 24-hour window of making the reservation. Maybe I should call back to cancel and rebook. That's a hassle because they charge money for the call and it also takes time. My main concerns are them missing out on potential Gold benefits. It's been so long since I've flown international that I can't recall how some of these things work!

If you are still in the 24 hr window, and the price hasnt increased, it could be worth it for peace of mind!

As noted, if the price hasnt increased, you could easily cancel the first set of tickets and book the new set together. If you have sufficient extra miles, you could first book the new set of tickets and then cancel the first set. That way you wont risk the price going up.

I know you ran into issues booking online and thus you having to call it in. It might work fine this time so you could give it a try online.

If cancel, no promise can rebook.

C+ is handled as an upgrade (jist like F). As there's three of you, unless one of them is elite, you wouldn't get upgrades even on one reservation.

Reservation has zero to do with passport line go to.

There is no fees with booking on the phone. Also, there is no redeposit fee, even if you are beyond the 24 hour window. Biggest issue is if the mileage amount is still the same. There are some advantages to everyone being on the same PNR. If the price in miles is the same, I would go ahead and rebook.

Thanks all. I decided to cancel and rebook, now we're all under the same number.

Couldn't do the reservation with the website, as for the past several days I have continued to receive an error message, saying "We're sorry. The fare for the flights you selected just sold out. Please search again to view and select alternate flights.#100503A". Even though the website gave no indication that it was sold out each time I tried.

You cannot combine two PNRs but a remark can be added in each booking to cross refer them, no need to cancel and rebook, that sounds very risky. There is nothing more confusing than cancelling and rebooking exact same thing. This cross referring is called a To Complete Party TCP. advice, its more than just a remark, its an OSI. This can be added to two or more bookings made at different times for the same flights for the same party or bookings that have been split out, maybe one needs to return a different date for example but still need to cross refer the outward for seat allocation purposes. The res agent probably cross referred the bookings without you knowing, as that is what a good res agent would do.
