LGA new widebody gates

Knowing that Delta worked hard to accommodate operational flexibility for most gates to accommodate almost all of their narrow body fleet; there is a mention of new wide body gates.

A 2021 article by Business Insider mentions two gates that could accommodate 767-300s during diversions and schedule disruptions. Could anyone clarify which specificate gate numbers these would be?

This is correct. In fact a handful of gates have flexibility for 75W.

What the article doesn’t mention is DL designed these gates for possible cessation of perimeter rule and adding trans on out of LGA.

I’ve wondered why DL doesn’t take advantage of the Saturday exception to the perimeter rule to run a couple transcons out of LGA (maybe to SEA or LAX?) but I guess it doesn’t make sense for them. I guess with these gates they hypothetically could though.

Didn’t they bring 767-400ER or 767-300 to LGA in the past? I remember when they bring the large aircraft back in early 2000s. Remember the those old days??

I have seen 767s at LGA. Can't recall if they were Delta birds or not.

Yes, they were Delta old livery scheme. So yes, they did bring 767-200/300/400ER aircraft.

LGA always had flexibilty for the 757. I've been on LGA-DTW on them ~5 years ago

The inaugural DL 764 flight from 2001 was LGA-FLL so yes widebodies have been used before at LGA by DL.

LGA has 757s all the time.

Air Canada flies 767s LGA/YYZ from time to time.

Delta and Eastern used to have L1011s at LGA regularly (primarily for Florida and ATL), and American often had DC10s as well (mostly to DFW).

I wouldn't say all the time. You'll occasionally see a Delta 757 at LGA now for a sports charter, otherwise it's a one-off situation. It's been since Covid that LGA is an A32x/737 station.

Not out of the norm to see an Air Canada 767 at LGA - they'll often bring them in around the holidays and if there's a big disruption in YYZ, they'll bring them in to try and clear some extra passengers out. Gate 51 at LGA in Terminal B is equipped for widebodies (49 needs to be shut if so).

This shows 757/737 gates at LGA; very easy that they could shut a gate next to one of these to handle a 767.

AA used to fly DC-10s from LGA to BOS, BUF, ORD, and YYZ too.

AA, which was the launch customer for the DC-10, required that the plane be capable of operating in and out of LGA, which had (relatively) short runways.

People have short memories here. DL routinely flew its domestic 763 in and out of LGA. Before that L-1011 was a regular visitor.

As for the 757, we don’t see many anymore but the A321 is effectively a 757 replacement. DL at LGA used to be almost exclusively 757s, including the Song experiment.

In my childhood, I flew DL 762s, 763s, and 764s out of LGA (either to ATL or FLL) several times. When landing in the 764 once, I vividly remember the pilot saying that this is the biggest aircraft that LGA can handle, so the landing will be a little rough. Essentially a 'brace yourselves' situation. I miss seeing/flying widebodies out of LGA, especially because I live in Astoria and regularly watch takeoffs and landings from my apartment. Maybe one day, they will return, or at the very least, scheduled 757 service.
