Future of the 717 at Delta (consolidated Threads)

Being widely reported that Delta will now keep all 91 717s until 2030 and install inflight entertainment. Probably the same system as the 220s have, which was designed in house by Delta. Between the A220s and 717s, Delta seems more committed to 110 seat airplanes than ever before.

Wow. It seems like having IFE on those aircraft would reduce performance. Delta sure seems committed to providing a very consistent product across their system. I am not complaining at all!

This is good news. Delta has started using the 717 on one of my regular routes (DCA-CVG), which is an up-gauge from the commuter service we used to have. They're a comfortable plane, and the IFE is a nice addition.

Same for my DCA-JFK flights, always good to have the 717 instead of the regional jets.

Those are going to be some old airframes. Some are already 20 years old it looks like.

At that age, I imagine it's a bit like the Ship of Theseus's paradox!

Would not be surprised if they use the newly-developed wireless IFE platform like what is in the A220s, A330-900s, and being rolled out on the 767-400s. Shoot, the 717s may be their guinea pig for eventual rollout to the CRJ-900s and Embraer jets.

DL has stated that any new aircraft receiving PTV's other than the rest of the A321ceos and A350s will get the wireless IFE system. IMO it makes sense to install IFE on the 717 now that DL has the new wireless IFE which is cheap too install and is lightweight. The current 717 seats are already IFE compatible with a cutout in the big empty white space on the back of the seats.

WFBF! But let's be honest, C+ on the 'two-seat' side of the cabin is no slouch of a place to be.

12F/98Y is not exactly out of line with the rest of the fleet. It's no E75, but few things are

Yes, Delta is pretty consistent with an approximately ~12% ratio of F:Y in their mainline fleet.

739: 20:160 (12.5%)
A321: 20:172 (11.7%)
A320: 16:141 (11.3%)
MD88: 16:133 (12.0%)

Given that shorter segments are much easier to score upgrades on (less WFBF and fewer corporate travel policies allow F bookings for sub-2 hour flights), I'd say you'll still do just fine unless your comparison point is the E175.

Awesome news. The 717s show up fairly often at RDU and adding IFE is a welcome addition

They are younger than many of the A319/320 and some 738.
