You'll be kept for observation for at least fifteen minutes after the vaccination. The process of the vaccination itself should take about ten minutes to take information from your insurance card, talk to you about allergies and potential side effects, actually do the injection, and then fill out their records and your CDC card. If you're going to have a sore arm, you probably won't notice anything for about twelve hours. The second shot is widely reported to have more side effects.

I'm very impressed that you were able to get this scheduled for the earliest eligible time slot.

Do you know what vaccine you'll be getting?

I heard earlier that Florida was willing to vaccinate out-of-state folks who would otherwise qualify. A utility bill with a Florida address and your last name might be sufficient. It would be something to check out if you'll be down around Tampa for more than three or four weeks, but you might not want to fly immediately after the second shot; the side effects can be worse.

And then the stories of Canadian snowbirds and Argentinian grannies that were able to get vaccine appointments when year round residents could not hit the news and DeSantis pretty much had to slap a residency rule into place really quickly. Seasonal residents can qualify without state-issued ID, but it does pretty much take a property deed or lease agreement (and not from a short term rental company) in order to be vaccine-eligible now.

There are a lot of cracks developing in the system- Publix is reportedly vaccinating anyone claiming to be a teacher without proof of employment- but the residency requirement is probably the least messy aspect of that crumbling system and I had to show a Florida DL to claim the vaccine dose I got from a local 'waste prevention' waiting list.

So very good to get the first dose before going into Florida. I got Moderna- sore arm, slight headache, some fatigue for 24 hours afterwards but I've flown feeling far worse.

The partial protection numbers for two weeks after first dose alone seem to be pretty good.

(And this being a Delta site, I'll say that getting a waste prevention vaccine kind of generates the same feeling for me like during ground stop recovery at ATL when you realize you've managed to rebook what are probably the last two possible tickets to your planned destination that will still get you there tonight.)

When I saw waste prevention, I thought this was some category of essential worker recognized by Florida, perhaps a term for recycling specialist or even sanitation engineer, although it could just be someone who eats a lot of leftovers or dumpster dives. In the latter case, could this be a euphemism for a homeless person?

In MN, preK-12 teachers must wait to be referred for a vaccine by their employer, although they're high on the priority list. Our governor is a former high school history teacher. In principle, someone who helps with Sunday school one hour a week or gives a few piano lessons privately to neighborhood kids is a teacher unless the term is defined more carefully.....and we mustn't forget al the latest fitness fad teachers and weight loss coaches.

A Pfizer vaccine vial has 5 doses; Moderna has 10. Each must be used or discarded within 6 hours of opening. The waste prevention list is for when a vaccine site has a few no shows and there are a few leftovers from an open vial in an ‘into any arm instead of the trash’ scenario.

I'm getting Moderna, chosen specifically because I have had severe reactions to aspirin in the past. I'd been hearing word that there were vaccine slots open in rural Ohio, so I checked with my hometown Public Health Department, and they had availability. I hate 'gaming' the system in this way, but it's not as though I'm doing anything illegal. I just hate that folks that may not have knowledge/connections are likely not getting the early slots. Such a mess.

Good news is that I just heard Dad's getting released this morning. Now I have to figure out a way to demand that he come back to OH so that my sister and I can see him thru the surgery. Given everything else I have going on right now, I can't spend a lot of time away from home. He's in the process of selling his FL house, so it's hella lot more complicated....plus he's so stubborn it's insane.

My local clinic was scheduling appointments every 10 minutes, so they had a few vials' worth of syringes filled when I arrived for my second injection, since it was early AM.

I got the Moderna one as well. I am especially pleased since I bought several shares of them last March

The next day sucks I have a headache, it hurts to move my arm, and I am exhausted. I know it could be a lot worse, but it still isn't fun.

Now there is a pigeon on my balcony. I am not sure if it's mocking me. I may try and drum up some more energy to go outside and scare it off. They are not afraid of Hootie anymore I guess.

Great to hear he’s stable enough for discharge!

I think I bought in April. Was in the 30s somewhere. I missed the top by a bit but got out around 135. I'm fine with that. Would have been a ST gain, but I used funds from backdoor Roth. 2020 was a crazy year for investing. Some easy calls for big gains.

Now if I could only get the vaccine... Apparently relatively fit, 40 something, white guys in overall good health, who are honest, aren't high on the priority list here. Go figure. There's a first time for everything.

Or I could stay here and just start eating. Next in line, the "Severely Obese" . Apparently if I put on 121 pounds and buy a new hat I qualify. I know I should just be thankful I am healthy, but it is frustrating to sit around and wait. Here's the list of qualifying conditions that start on 3/15.
  • Cancer, current with weakened immune system
  • Chronic kidney disease, stage 4 or above
  • Chronic pulmonary disease, oxygen dependent
  • Down syndrome
  • Solid organ transplant, leading to a weakened immune system
  • Pregnancy
  • Sickle cell disease
  • Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies (but not hypertension)
  • Severe obesity (Body Mass Index ≥ 40 kg/m2)
  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus with hemoglobin A1c level greater than 7.5%
OR
If as a result of a developmental or other severe high-risk disability one or more of the following applies:
The individual is likely to develop severe life-threatening illness or death from COVID-19 infection
  • Acquiring COVID-19 will limit the individual’s ability to receive ongoing care or services vital to their well-being and survival
  • Providing adequate and timely COVID care will be particularly challenging as a result of the individual’s disability.

I think that scenario was mentioned on a recent Lounge Zoom. Brings to mind the "King-Size Homer" episode of the Simpsons...
