They are for alcoholic drinks. The comment about the other passengers ordering something is that the FAs would have to serve them something anyway.

Last year I stood in ATL and gave them all away one by one for free. Nothing offside since I didn’t sell any of them.

What if you gave them to the FA and said "give to whomever you think should have it". Then you aren't creating a headache for them and they can spread it out over multiple flights.

No! I wasn't suggesting getting one (asides, I'm not flying any domestic routes until February and tend to loose my passport when drunk in planes).

This is what I would do. Second choice would be to send 4-5 of them to a Flyertalker who could use them.

I would be afraid that the FA would throw them away because she didn't want to create work for herself.

Few years ago I was given 100 (plus or minus a few) because I was downgraded from 1st to Coach. GA just gave me a stack of them and threw miles my way. I didn't drink so they weren't useful and at the time didnt think of it. But on my next flight I bought everyone a drink and on the return i gave them out to everyone in the gate area.

I've had 5 or 6 to give away (should check how many I have now) and once handed them out at the gate but other times gave them to the FA. No idea what she did with them

I was given a couple (or rather She Who Must Be Obeyed was) as we walked thru the Atrium at ATL one Dec 30.

i like this and you can even request back whatever they don’t use on that flight and pass them out randomly in your arrival airport. If I were working the flight I’d probably say somthing like “a kind passenger offered up some of his extra drink coupons” (identifying you or not depending on your preference) tipping is not necessary and we’re supposed to decline. But a small treat is always appreciated and allowed (but again not necessary at all). They’re totally yours to use however you see fit!

and printed coupons are way easier than credit cards!

Does their use show instantly in your FF account? I'd think they might be scanned after landing, when the FA gets back to home base, or when the FA remembers to bother to do it.

I've sent some screenshots/PDF to friends/co-workers and they stayed firmly in My Wallet (even well after the flight was completed), so yes sometimes you literally can't give them away

And although I don't have a ton of experience seated in regular Y (I usually book far enough in advance to clear into C+, or WFBF) my "hit" rate there is only around 50% on whether they collect the coupon or not. Sometimes I have one pulled up on my phone ready to present and the FA never looks like they're even thinking of asking me for payment, /shrug -- I'm curious how much latitude/discretion the FAs have to comp drinks when they aren't otherwise supposed to be free. But that would explain why the ones I give away aren't often scanned either.

+1. Just printed a few off the website for my brother to take on a trip. He definitely used them several days ago but they're all still available in my app and DL account.

IME, the FAs usually do scan my phone if I'm trying to use a coupon from the app. But if I have a printed one and hand it to them, I think it just gets lost in the mix by the time they make it back to the galley or they decide it's not worth scanning them all. Either way, something like 80% of the time I use a paper coupon it never actually disappears from my Wallet.
