Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:

Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)

Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.

Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017

Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.

New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3

Bus Map

Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)
pix in post 1058
- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...d-updates.html

Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:

Delta will temporarily offer dedicated check-in space in Terminal 2 (first door closest to T1) while a long-term Delta One experience is finalized.
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)

Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)

Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris

Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet

Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

Sitting in T2 Crown Room; still a lot of work to do. Besides no hot food (or any prepared food at all), no shades on windows so sun is just streaming in; would be nice if they at least turned the AC up to counter the sun.

Flew into T3 Friday; a disaster. Flight was delayed over an hour leaving ATL (including a southerly routing) just because of gate availability. Arrived only to find out only one Burger King for food (with extremely lines) and long lines at the one restroom in the terminal and the one in baggage claim. Didn't look like that terminal had been updated in 30 years; at least T2 does look better.

I don't understand how they claimed that the transition would be over last Wednesday; there is a lot of work to do and no workers seem to be around doing any of the work. Why did they think it more important to hang pictures in Crown Room instead of window shades?

Marc

Edited to add: To add insult to injury, flight tonight is now delayed 40 minutes (which isn't too bad) but they moved the flight to Gate 37A.

Edited further to add: Now, my phone says we are out of gate 26, my computer says we are out of 24, and the incoming flight is scheduled to arrive at 21; is this any way to run an airline? At least no shuttle tonight.

I don't recall their being issues with the air conditioning when I was in T-3, but it was not a very hot day. If this is in fact an issue, I think this is something that either LAWA or DL need to spend some money on and fix if it's going to be several years before a new terminal is built.

I have no idea of this would be possible, but I also think DL should consider beefing up operations at BUR for the next few years, with at least better service to their hubs, and give people an option to avoid LAX. BUR is not scheduled to be demolished and rebuilt until 2023, which could be perfect timing for the new T3.

It's possible at LGB for the South Bay people. There are 25 commuter slots open. Ask for and get 8, then use 4 CRJ7 to SEA and SLC, and use the 4 air carrier slots for ATL or MSP.

While it would be nice, I don't see it happening.

Just to clarify, that was the only thing open at the hour you were there? Because I found out belatedly that there's more options besides just BK, in the sort of separate area near Gate 30 (and it's a slightly nicer ambiance overall, although that isn't saying much)

Only thing we found, you are correct, we arrived just before noon on Friday. I thought this move was made to upgrade the Delta (and Skyteam) experience at LAX; i now wonder if they will tick off more customers than they will ever gain. The Crown Room at LAX used to have a reputation for the best bloody marys; now it may be known for other reasons.

I was a T3 regular in TWA days (1985-89), and again with AS (1992-2012, when they migrated to T6)

I spent about 90 min in T3 on a VX connection a couple months ago, and it was obvious that the airlines that have operated there in the past 5 years have done little if anything in terms of modernizing it

They claimed the MOVE would be completed last week. And they are correct. To the best of my knowledge, DL has no operations in T5 or T6 anymore.

DL has been pretty clear that they now plan to start a 7-year project to update and upgrade their new facilities. No one said that would be completed in a week

No one said to prepare to endure a substantial downgrade in the interim.

T2/T3 shuttle

Sorry, this has probably been answered here, but I searched and couldn't find the answer.

I have a Delta flight in a couple of days that connects in LAX. The arrival is in T3, and the departure is in T2. And it's a pretty short connection time (45 minutes, assuming my arrival is on time).

Does anyone know where in T3 to get the shuttle? I looked at the latest T3 map on lawa.org, but I didn't see it. And is it reasonable to assume that, say, 30 minutes is plenty of time to wait for the shuttle and get to T2? (I assume it must go back and forth every 5 minutes or so, but I might be wrong.)

Thanks,

Ken

If you've been to T3 before, you didn't need someone to tell you that.

In its previous facilities, DL was trapped. The gates were over-loaded, and they had no possibility for growth. This move is all about the long term.

Do we have any specific reports on how reliable the trams are connecting T2 to the other LAX terminals?

They were quite clear that they would be tearing down and rebuilding T3 while it was in operation and it would take many years and cost something like $1.9B. Logic says that if the terminal was in great shape they wouldn't need to spend $1.9B across 7 years,

Delta has not operated Crown Rooms for many years now, since the merger with Northwest Airlines and the combining of the World Club and Crown Room systems to create Sky Clubs.

Also, for much of the time in recent years, the Sky Club was a self service bar. I would think that a club that has had a tended bar for many years (like JFK T2) would stand a better chance of having a reputation for a great bloody mary or other drink. The LAX Skyclub in T5 was OK, and a bit better recently with some minor renovations, but hardly one of the top clubs in the system, and very often was over-crowded. I think in the end this move will enable them to create a Sky Club that will probably be a flagship for them, on par with SEA, SFO and JFK T4.

The map on Delta's web site shows the shuttle routes:

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...s-angeles.html

The lines match my memory of the gate locations where the T2<->T3 shuttle operates from. I did not go to TBIT so can't speak to that.

Thanks, I had seen that, but I wasn't sure if they represented the actual locations or not, so that helps a lot.

Am I right that they run continuously back-and-forth, so you usually have to wait only 5-10 minutes at most?
