Thanks everyone for the replies. For the record, the "Click here to go to VS..." link wasn't working for me. There was also nowhere to enter the ticket # that I could find. When I tried, it told me it needed the 6 digit locator despite saying the ticket # should work.
I ended up emailing VS and they replied with the needed info. They gave me VS's record locator and (as someone noted above), the first name had become my first and middle name combined together.
Of course, I found all of that out only to find out that picking seats on VS more than 60 days ahead costs money, so now I just wait

I booked a frequent flyer ticket on VS and when I clicked through to pick a seat it tried to charge me the $70 each way (so I cancelled the booking)
But now I see this on Delta. com
If you are a SkyMiles Diamond or Platinum Medallion, you can select seats for all your party (so long as you are in the same booking) up to 336 days before departures free of charge, you may select an Extra Legroom or Exit Row Seat for yourself free of charge and standard seats for the rest of your party.
So does anyone know how this works?
Thanks!

I also book a flight with awards and being charged. Not happy about this. If I get stuck in the middle I won't be happy. I will not pay.

paid for seat...
Wife and I ended up paying for a seat on VA for a MIA-LHR summer flight. Original flight was booked with Delta miles. She not the flying type and wants to sit together so, $40/pp each way to guarantee seats.
Note, TWICE delta has a dropped my itinerary from my skymiles (ticket still existed but not attached). When this happens, VA LOSES the seat reservation also. Virgin told me whenever Delta changes something on their end, they lose it also. Not sure about that....
Regardless, a quick call to Virgin got my seats back as they had the paid receipt on file. So, just to note, if you DO pay for seats on VA, and ticket was booked through Delta, make sure they are still there before you head out...
