Virgin Atlantic not recognizing booking code from Delta
I booked a flight through Delta that has a VA component (JFK -> LHR). When I attempt to manage my flight on VA's site, it cannot find the reservation. I'd like to be able to pick seats, etc. on this leg.
Is there some sort of trick to getting this to happen? |
Are you using DL's code or did you get the VS code from Delta? They'd be two different codes.
Just FYI. VA= Virgin Australia VS= Virgin Atlantic VX= Virgin America. |
Virgin Atlantic asks for a locator record. The only one I have is from Delta. I know the VS flight #, but not any separate locator #.

You would need to call Delta or Virgin Atlantic to get the Virgin Atlantic record locator
|
As this query is specific to a DL booking, the thread will likely get better feedback here in the dedicated Delta forum.

It asks for a booking reference number or an e-ticket number. That ticket number is the same across all systems unlike the record locator number. Punch in the 13 digit ticket number and it should pull it up without you having to call DL to get the VS record locator.
|
Nevertheless, you should have the VS PNR with you when you travel in case VS agents are unable to find your reservation. This should be possible with the ticket number, but I would not want to count on this working. In fact, I think it's wise to call partner airlines (other than AF/KLM) and ask them to verify that they can see both the ticket and matching reservation in their system.

As others have mentioned, Delta and VS have different record locator numbers for the same itinerary. In order to access your VS record locator without having to call Delta, try going to the seat map for the VS-operated flight on Delta.com and then clicking on the link in this message: "To manage your seat, please visit virginatlantic.com."
Your VS record locator should appear in the URL and you should be automatically redirected to your booking. |

This is what I've done each time with DL-booked/VS-operated flights and have had no issue.

This is a nice trick. Why can't DL do this for other partners such as AF/KLM or even KE?

I usually call other carriers to get the PNR. Using different websites tends to require that you know their conventions on exactly how names are listed. Some drop the middle name, some just have the initial, some have both first and middle names with or without caps, etc., and getting it wrong leads to a message that they cannot find your flights. I've almost given up on trying DIY first as this tends to cause me to panic when it doesn't work.

This is a bit of a tangent, but my one major complaint about VS is that their phone system is terrible. Apart from audio quality issues I've frequently experienced, I've had to wait on hold for 20-30 minutes before when I had a reservation in J and there were no apparent system-wide travel disruptions.

Agree with the audio quality issue mentioned below, although Virgin answered quickly and were helpful I could barely understand what they were saying between low quality and loud conversations in the background. |
