A question about delayed flight
Hi fellow travelers -
My Delta flight from Detroit to Boston was delayed for three hours due to mechanical problem. I was told that I could get $50 [for future delta travel] as a result of the delay (from a fellow passenger).
Is he right about this? If so, where can I get the $50? Please help, thank you!

The redcoat at the counter was giving everyone on the flight, regardless of the length of their delay, a service recovery card. All it said was to go to a site and fill out the form for one of three choices. I believe the options were 5k miles, a $50 Delta travel voucher, or $25 prepaid gift card. (I could be off on the choices, but the Delta voucher was definitely the best deal.)
All the web site had is a long form asking for passenger, flight, ticket, and reservation info. About 2 days later I received an email saying that my voucher had been processed and should now appear in my account.

The last time I was on a flight that was cancelled, I was auto-rebooked on the next non-stop flight out (I believe it was ~3.5 hours later). Some were unable to get to their destination via any routing that day, others were rebooked on connecting flights that were departing sooner.

There is no code or anything on the card, just instructions about the choices and the web address (which is interestingly not on a Delta site). Make sure you know the flight number, ticket number, and your PNR so you can complete the form whenever you are able to find it.

You can complain on Delta's web site and they may compensate you. Compensation is more likely if you are a member of SkyMiles and even more likely if you are an elite (medallion) member. If not a member at all they are unlikely to give you anything. They may give you miles or a voucher. Keep your complaint short and to the point.
If you are a member or plan to begin flying Delta regularly, consider carefully whether this is really worth a complaint and whether it's worth it if $50 is the compensation (and that is the maximum I'd expect). Delta scores its customers on several metrics including whether they complain about little things. If you do, they're going to take you less seriously when you complain about big things.

Thanks. Would someone send me the site that dcline414 mentions? I'm a silver medallion and I just logged a 'refund' (not complaint) from them. I don't know what they are going to do but hopefully I'll get something back. This is actually not the first time that Delta delayed my flight, and last time I didn't even know that such a voucher exists...
If anyone can help, that will be great. Thank you folks.

The person who mentioned the $50 voucher might have been a higher level elite who just assumed that everyone would get the same compensation.
