Very tempting, as PHL-SLC is operated by lie-flat 757 (continuation of DL195 LHR-PHL)...and I will be without status for a brief period of time meaning no priority boarding and no shot at comp upgrade...and we will be checking a couple of bags at $25 each.

If it was just me, I would bite for sure, but it's me and a companion and I would be picking up the tab for both...

I assume it would re-fare to A or P...but without knowing for sure...

Decisions, decisions...

I believe you could split your record and just upgrade yourself without upgrading the companion, if you want...

Also, if you call, they should be able to tell you what fare class you will rebook into when taking the "offer" (as the phone agents often can see or offer you that price too).

Im old enough to know better than to upgrade myself to F for a transcon and leave my girlfriend in Y lol

lm considering it for sure, as I have SMF-TXL-PHL with 6 segments all in Y in the preceding 7 days to this flight pair.

I have been EXP on American for years and even hub to hub on last minute tickets I've never been passed 10 or 11. Comfort Plus on the 757-300 was excellent so I cannot complain. I don't care for American Airline so Ill deal with it for now. We really have crappy choices now a days!

In this specific case, I imagine some of the depth of the upgrade list and your ranking is due to service recovery from the system outage yesterday.

LAX-MSP (Q) -> (P)
MSP-LAX (K) -> (A)

(Q+K) $661.40
(P+A) +$327 ($163.5 each way)

Reasonable buy up for combined 8 hours of travel. Plus a nice amount of miles to AS. I will be severely impacted by the DL/AS split. AA... yuck.

...

Just using this as an example.

Looking for confirmation - and have not yet found an anser upthread.

If (using the previous post an example) after the buy-up for a total of $988.40 and there is a need to cancel, is any voucher value based on the full amount paid less $200, or the original $661.40 less $200? e.g. $788.40 or $461.40.

i.e. Does the buy-up result in a ticket re-issue to the total value.

To each their own, but a total nearly $1k return fare for LAX-MSP round trip doesn't strike me as especially compelling when I'm routinely seeing what amounts to transcon travel for $675-800 round trip.

I guess your coach fare was so high that the relatively "minor" bump up to F isn't such an ordeal.

I ended up accepting this as its a late Sunday flight and we need to be at work on time on Monday morning, so catching some quality rest on the trip over will be helpful. The tickets re-fared to I for PHL-SLC and A for SLC-SMF. $479 one way is more than I prefer to pay on this route -- I've paid $375 pretty routinely in the past for G and A fares. But it is what it is.

The fact that there originally was a coach fare upgraded to a GAP is really meaningless once you purchase the ticket. When you have done that, you have a ticket that reads fares denominated as G,A, or P.

When I have needed to cancel or change a GAP ticket, the fare less the $200 change fee (when I have been unable to plead for and cajole a waiver :D) has been completely applied to the voucher or to the new itinerary.

Thankyou - it's what I expected but wanted confirmation.

It's interesting, as I normally purchase one-ways, but for my anticipated situation, a round ticket could be the better option(or at least more cost effective should I need to reschedule).

I have to fly. This isn't a thread about cheap fares. I found the buy up to be quite manageable. That being said, I'm just sharing a data point.

Finally getting a real FCM offer for the first time in like a year.

Too bad it's for CHS-ATL-BTR. Offer has gone from fare difference to $140, $120, and is now $90. My upgrade chances look quite good though, so unless it goes to $40 or something, I'll pass.

BWI-SEA, Fri 17 Feb, booking 10 days out: U was $266, G/A/P on the sunrise flight (connecting to the A332 DTW-SEA) was $560 but other flights during the day were $498 or $521; C+ cleared immediately so I decided to wait a day or so in order to see what might happen ... the next morning when I logged in and brought up the trip I was greeted by a banner saying "Upgrade for $229"

just happened to have a $120 voucher sitting idly by, so that was pretty automatic ... first time on a 332

PV_Premier Feb 17, 2017 9:44 am

another interesting offer cropping up today...

early May travel SMF-ATL-BWI

$101 one way V fare purchased a couple months ago
On "my trips" page, offered an upgrade for $379 to F
Lowest currently available fare is $482 but on SMF-MSP-BWI routing only
Lowest F on my flights is $613

I probably won't take it unless it drops to under $300

Best time to do OLCI for FCM?

Have a trip booked in T class this Sunday: TLH-ATL-MSP-ANC. RT with return next week. Have been watching the "upgrade to First" banner for weeks now and the price has gone from Fare Difference to only a meager savings. Nothing worth taking. Still, I'm hopeful tomorrow when I complete OLCI something better will pop up.

Question:

Is it better to do OLCI at T-24 from one's initial departing point, or wait until T-24 from a specific segment in order to enhance the chances of a FCM offer?

It probably doesn't matter, just looking for data points others. 6 hours in Y on a 757 is not that fun!
