at time of booking a DFW-LAX one way (E175 plane), was offered $39 for C+ or $79 for F... so F it is :)

$289 for SFO-ATL seems like an exceedingly good deal for a Sunday transcon; assuming of course that you didn't purchase a Y/B fare.
That flight is 350-500RT in Main Cabin from my experience. Fly the ATL-SFO-ATL Round Trip 4-5 times a year. FC at time of booking is between 900-1200. So if you take 289 FC Upgrade seems right in line. |

Sounds more like a fare different to me.

I finally got my first buy-up offer (and I book weekly, through a travel portal).
At $27 for a flight where I had a middle C+ seat, C+ totally full, and only 3 FC showing on the seat map... I couldn't say no. I did say no to the 2nd leg at $61 as my seat is a decent C+ aisle, though. I wish I could pay with a voucher/eCredit for online upgrades, though. Does anyone know if you call in if they'll apply it? |
LGA-MSP on 4-5-17 was offered $189 at check in. 4 seats were open.

Does time of check in matter? I've only been offered once and that was a couple of weeks ago from LGA-ATL. For that flight, I checked in a couple of hours before the flight instead of the usual 24 hours ahead. I'd be real willing to do a buy-up tomorrow for my flight to HNL. One seat left, waitlisted a GUC. If timing seems to make a difference, I'll wait to check in.

Anti-FCM
A few days ago, while rechecking my seat assignments for an itinerary to commence in a few days, I received a buy-up offer for one segment of the trip. The itinerary, with all seats in C+, is as follows:
4/12 MSP-CDG 5/4 AMS-ATL-MSP The upgrade offer was for a bit over $1000 to upgrade only the ATL-MSP segment. What a deal! |
$109 at OLCI for JFK - RDU with 2 open seats. Crazy price IMO especially when C+ was only a $10 premium at booking

DTW-JFK tomorrow, $139... Not going to take it. This was via PC. I'll check again via app as I'm curious about variations in pricing vs time/device.
However, important question which I know has likely been elsewhere but I'm too anxious to search for at the moment. While int'l FCM is rare and unpredictable, does anyone have experience with offers appearing during web/mobile check-in _prior_ to T-24 (when a connecting flight allows you earlier check-in) or has it only shown up after T-24 (if it has shown up at all)? Thanks! |
So let's get this straight. It has been said here something to the effect that if you are a DM who usually buys front cabin and all of a sudden you buy a coach ticket, the upgrade offers to you suck wind.
As a data point for that conversation, my $272 coach ticket on the LGA-DCA Shuttle, where that fare is a K (the cheapest that I have seen on that route), did get me an offer when I checked my reservation today, a day and a half out. I was offered the upgrade to first class with all of the emoluments, privileges, and amenities that go therewith, for the measly sum of $552. But maybe someone thought that the 36 minute flight early in the morning would take so much out of me if I flew it in a coach seat that I might not be able to get any work done the rest of the day. :D But then again, Perhaps they know me better than I know myself. |
I have the return portion of an itinerary this Friday with 3 segments. Currently booked in Main Cabin. The first segment of this particular itinerary is almost always offered to upgrade to F at OLCI for $89. Never really bothered with it because it is such a short segment.
My question is: If I were to take it, would I receive the increased luggage weight allowance (up to 70 lbs) for all 3 segments? I have 2 checked bags, one teetering on the edge at 48-49 pounds. I'm in the process of moving so taking as much as I can would be feasible. Would be nice to have the benefit of two 70 lb bags for $89 upgrade vs overweight fee(s). |
