I have the return portion of an itinerary this Friday with 3 segments. Currently booked in Main Cabin. The first segment of this particular itinerary is almost always offered to upgrade to F at OLCI for $89. Never really bothered with it because it is such a short segment.
My question is: If I were to take it, would I receive the increased luggage weight allowance (up to 70 lbs) for all 3 segments? I have 2 checked bags, one teetering on the edge at 48-49 pounds. I'm in the process of moving so taking as much as I can would be feasible. Would be nice to have the benefit of two 70 lb bags for $89 upgrade vs overweight fee(s). |

Yes. Holding a premium cabin seat on any flight in your one-way itinerary entitles you to the premium cabin baggage allowance. The allowance just doesn't apply roundtrip.

So, I checked in this morning for my flight tomorrow from the iPhone app, and lo and behold I had my first ever OLCI ug offer. Not a great offer, but I took it none the less. Well now I notice that segment is coded as RP?? Is that correct and will I still earn MQM's?
The app upgrade was not very transparent to show me what I actually was buying, so it was confusing (to me). Thanks! |

Thank you Delta for the FCM program, been flying a lot between SFO and ANC of lately, Delta's F fares have been half of AS's, and only ~$100 more than Y on roundtrip basis booking as little as 2 weeks out. As a lowly Silver, I get to enjoy pretty good service back and forth.

RP is an upgrade fare class and you probably will not earn bonus MQMs. You will earn based on the underlying economy fare class of your original ticket.

Dumb question here, but assuming that there are OLCI offers for upgrades, does Delta release them at the 24 hour threshold (when you can OLCI), or do they get released closer to departure time?
In other words, is there any benefit to checking in at T-24 vs. T-3 or something like that? (I know, nothing's guaranteed). |
What is the reasoning behind the OLCI not getting the MQM boost, but if you did it 3 days before and jumped on the FCM offer on my trips(I've seen them by the SAME dollar amount) you could get it.
Doesn't seem to be any sound reasoning for it. |

Booked a trip in a couple weeks DTW/FLL last night. First was about $400 more on the screens where you select your flights so booked coach. When I went to check out it usually says upgrade to first for $xxx (whatever the price difference was if I would have selected first to begin with) but last night it said $42 each way. I jumped on it even though first was pretty wide open on both flights for just the MQM's and the SDC flexibility (after paying the first class fare it was cheaper than what coach would have been on the return flight I want on so if I can SDC onto the flight will be a great deal and I'd like to get on an earlier outbound as well where coach was a lot more than the coach fare on the flight I selected). When I chose the seats I was glad I did it because only middle C+ seats and no exit rows on the return on the seat map.

Doesn't seem to be any sound reasoning for it. I know that buying up before OLCI results in a new ticket being issued. Does anyone know if accepting an OLCI offer also results in a reissue and new ticket number? |

Current status is DM? That's nice FCM offer. One of the best I have seen to someone with status.
I would have probably gotten the upgrade anyway but it's nice having the MQM's and I will use the SDC flexibility both ways providing seats are available. |

There's no logic as to *why* DL chooses to do it that way, but in technical terms I imagine DL would say that if you use an OLCI offer, you are just purchasing a better seat assignment out of those available RP upgrades, but your actual ticket is not changing. Vs. if you buy prior to then, you are actually changing your purchased fare.
I know that buying up before OLCI results in a new ticket being issued. Does anyone know if accepting an OLCI offer also results in a reissue and new ticket number? A few weeks ago I posted about someone being on my LGA/DTW flight who had no status and was on a cheaper coach ticket than me and their buy up offer to first class was a lot cheaper than my offer at OLCI time. I don't think it would be fair to a DM if an FO is getting 50% bonus miles for paying $50 at time of check in to sit up front when their offer on a more expensive fare is for more. If you do OLCI are you still eligible to SDC? i.e. if I do an OLCI at 10 a.m. for a LGA/DTW trip and there are seats up front on the 6 p.m. EWR/DTW trip and I get a $75 OLCI offer to sit up front and accept it, can I call Delta immediately after and get on the EWR/DTW 6 p.m. flight like I could if I had a purchased first class ticket? I would never pay to sit up front normally on DTW/NYC or Chicago trip but if it would give me the co-terminal/SDC ability it would be worth it sometimes. |

I think it makes sense not to give the bonus MQMs seeing OLCI usually is for a lower amount than the fare difference than buying a first class ticket at the time of booking.

Yes, still diamond. This is the first time I remember seeing the offer at time of checkout to be cheaper than what was quoted on the page when booking (there have been a couple times where I have gone in right after booking the trip to select my C+ seats and have seen a cheaper buy up offer).
