The question was where are the promos. Seats were full last year too...promos drive incremental revenue and they have them (see the BOS double/triple MQM promo on now) but they will never do an open ended promo like last year again...or at least till they pull Roll over.

If the flights are full, DL has no need to run promos.

Promos are run when flights are not full, or when they need to offer something to make people book DL vs the competition.

This isn't rocket science. It's Marketing 101.

Do you REALLY believe ALL flights are full? Marketing 101: The promos last year were offered in cities that are were not growing. The same situation is in place today. You really are a marketeers dream...you believe everything.

I can now book and change those tickets fee-free (up until t-72) for 2 more full years, use the SC for free, use the DM line for IROPs, board in front of all the Plats who are actually spending $$ with DL, take upgrades on award tickets taking seats from Plats who are paying, and never set foot on a DL plane as a paid customer. If you look at the program they only give benefits to those who are flying now (look at the MM program for proof of that) so this is totally against the way DL thinks.

This was a HUGE mistake and that is why you will not see it again.

Or we get DM+ (250k MQM). Which, IMHO, is the easiest solution to the excess roll-over issue.

OR, DL treats the folks that rack up 300k MQMs a year nicely, and lets them continue doing so. I am guessing that it isn't that many people.

As I previously noted, I don't believe roll-over was implemented for you 300k MQM-a-year fliers; it was implmented for the FO, GM and PM folks.

yeah but like in the US, where the top 10% of the population earns 90% of the money: airline passengers, especially the top 10%, would do almost 90% of the BIS.

I don't have exact numbers but I strongly believe this is the case.

Actually, RDU is one of the fastest-growing metro areas in the country (#4 or #2 depending on your source).

I doubt this fact played into DL's decision to run the DMQM promotion, as I suspect the promotion was more of a short-term (1-2 years) ploy to compete with AA in a market where both run neck-and-neck.

Agreed but the statement "planes are full so why run a promo" is what I was disputing. There are plenty of reasons to run promos that have to do with growing the business not maintaining.

I dunno. There are a number of DMs on sLUT fares that cost less than half of an M. There's no question DMs are important, but I think there's a lot of DMs who think they're more important than they actually are.

This is clearly in evidence in the way they react to KM tags... :D

You know, why not actually read what I wrote instead of trying to read my mind.

Yes, there are promos. They're limited. In markets where flights are not full.

Anyone looking for some system-wide promos, or extended promos like last year is going to be disappointed. But this has nothing to do with roll-over which is what you implied.

Must I spell it out? Do you need more caffeine today? ;)

If the plane is full, a promo is pointless because there are no seats to sell.

They USUALLY would LOVE to add more/bigger planes ;)

Which is actually a good point, because they stop running a chunk of TCON after Thanksgiving, so the question is where do they fly to/from instead?

Can anyone who travels on the RDU-NY/BOS flights regularly indicate if the metal has grown for post-Thanksgiving?

Or, does DL use this time to do their retrofits?

So what, that DM is still going to be ahead of you on the upgrade list unless you're on a Y fare....or bought and F ticket to begin with...

There are plenty of DYKWIA's....not necessarily DM's...

I don't disagree about the LUTE fares, but from the Airline's perspective, they are only trying to make sure they fill enough seats to break even for low volume flights.

As for the statement about DMs, what makes you think it is not the same for PMs, GMs & FOs?

I have something even better than a KM tag, it is the Yellow FT tag, good on all airlines not just DL. :D

Because most, if not all, of the people complaining about roll-over here are DMs.

Eh? I thought we were talking about DMs who are apparently too busy getting status with another airline and so are no longer flying DL until they need to rack up more MQMs?

For sure, but at least you don't hear those coming... :D
