Small-to-medium airports and/or cities associated with competitors, where DL could increase its long-term presence?

timboy219 Jan 9, 2011 8:10 pm

I know that a good amount of FT'ers hate the DMQM promo, but I'm personally hoping for RDU to be included again, since I will be moving to the area next month. :)

SEA would be good as well, but given the amount of international DL flights from here, i'm not sure that would be the best idea.

Yes, Bonus Pesos, not MQMs.

My vote would be DEQM for those same cities, but then again, I'm biased.

Does anyone know how the RSW-MEM loads have been. It is really nice to get another hub into the picture down here. I couldn't find that route on the downloadable calendar but I have been able to purchase it.

Maybe MIA, as DL is beefing up its FL presence.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with this one.

If I had to guess, I'd say IND as a focus city with a new SC is a candidate for DMQM. Perhaps PHL if DL has lost customers due to the SC being closed.

Whatever they do, I would like it to be a city with a lounge or at least access :)

I picked PIT-MUC for my D-MQM run, not realizing there is no lounge access at either end!

At least PIT has free wi-fi in the airport.

Bingo and bingo. I was quite pleasantly surprised with the DMQM promo out of my current point of origin. I would have requal'd this year but didn't mind rolling up some excess MQM.

On the logic of the promo cities chosen - given my view of DL's aggressive ramp in STL stepping into the vacuum left by AA (e.g. multiple nonstops to LGA, I hope the load factors climb on these so they'll keep the freq; also the return of mainline for most hub routes, etc), I think this has to be a significant part of the promo's push - angling to land those elite type flyers feeling somewhat stranded in their former airline's stronghold. I know several AA elites here in STL grumbling about the lack of departures now. I have suggested DL to several (one I know got a call from AAdvantage... actually a human that called to ask "we've noticed your flying patterns have changed, would you mind telling us if there is a reason or if we've done something wrong?"... classic response "yeah, you've stopped flying where I need to go").

They won't include RDU again until at least 2012. After the DMQM promotion, everyone here is PM/DM and therefore will be hanging with DL through 2011. After we burn through all our rollover miles next year, we could theoretically do a status match with AA in early 2012 and jump ship.

Of course, I'm still doing pretty well with upgrades despite everyone and their dog being DM around here, so I'll probably stick around -- especially now that they have revived the RDU-LAX route for the summer. (Now that would be an awesome flight for a DMQM promotion.)

My reason why DL should NOT be doing these for so long in any city and, FWIW, is precisely the reason I do not want DL doing a DEQM of any significant length from my home airport. If DL wants to hook people in growing areas, I'd prefer they not give away a million DM cards in the process.

I had to fly to fly ATL-RDU and RDU-ATL several times during the promotion. Fares were as low as $128 sometimes. On each segment, I got 1k MQMs and 3.5k SMs. You really think half of the people who were going to these cities to get extra SMs were giving up 25k SMs for a very cheap flight, especially when 7k miles were credited if you paid for the flight? Seems like a waste of opportunity and SMs.

(Of course, despite the double MQMs, the flight still only counted as one MQS, so it was meaningless to segment qualifiers.)

I would love to see something at ATL as well to fight off WN. I think this will be a very interesting fight, one that I think DL will win in the long run, not the short run.

I would take AGS, CAE or JAX as well.

jimrpa Jan 12, 2011 6:57 am

I'm hoping for PHL and/or DAB & MCO :D

I'd much rather see Delta do DMQM promotions instead of Bonus SkyPesos. At least MQMs yield something of tangible value to me.
