Married segments are use on awards on Delta. Also partners can only be booked at the lowest level. The partner can make awards at higher levels for their program, however DL can only book if they have space their lowest level.

Next if the TATL or TPAC flight is partner then DL adds a 10-15k mile surcharge.

Finally if you mix DL and partner flights it can get pricey. The reason is DL can make their own flights available at multiple levels. If the DL flight isn't available at the lowest level, then pricing becomes additive. Meaning your pay for an award on the DL flight plus one on the partner. You don't get to just pay for one award at higher price.

Hi, I'm trying to use a companion certificate, and I'm seriously puzzled. I go through the process with 2 passengers but only get prompted for one passenger's name. I see the taxes and fees for the second ticket, but I can only select one seat, and I can get all the way to the final checkout page with only one passenger name listed (but the taxes and fees still there for the second ticket). Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I wonder if this is something to do with the new website?

I used my Plat certificate maybe 10 or 11 days ago with no issues.

Update: I tried again about six hours later (on the same computer and web browser), and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the responses!

I'm trying to use my Platinum Amex Companion Certificate which has still be in my wallet even after cancelling my Delta Amex Platinum with the understanding that based on this thread, I could use any AMEX to pay. It keeps saying "please enter a valid credit card" when I attempt to pay. I even tried using my spouses Delta Gold Amex (which is still active) and it won't work. Has anyone else experienced this? Have they truly closed out using other AMEXs???

Either way I agree that recent data points would be useful (esp since I'm about to cancel my DL Plat) -- maybe they've finally tightened up that part of their IT.

My successful result referenced above was roughly a year ago. It sounds like they may have since closed the loophole.

I have used an SPG this January and my Reserve on my wife’s platinum cert about a week ago.

This would be incredibly unlucky timing for me then. I also understand I have to do it all online so calling in won't do anything

Two weeks ago - used cert and charged to my unbranded amex Plat. However my DL amex that generated the cert was still active (and had defaulted in on the payment screen despite the unbranded Plat being my usual default).

Guys I figured it out! I have moved out of the US so my Delta Account address is foreign. Even though I've been selecting my US billing address and my US AMEX card to pay, for some reason, it was defaulting "Province/State" to my foreign country and not the US. I only noticed when I tried to manually add in another address. Solution: I had to exit the booking process and make my US address primary in my Delta Profile and then try to rebook. It finally allowed me to use my Amex Premier Gold (3X points!). Glad to see this feature still works. Saved ~$600 USD on my companions fare!

Very interesting data point. Glad you figured it out and thanks for sharing the result!

Are people still using the companion certificates to book a second seat for themselves? The only threads I've seen about people doing that are a few years old, so I wasn't sure if people have done it more recently.

I didn’t know whether or not there were other restrictions, but I just applied a RUC to my wife’s AX Platinum companion cert to the LAX>ATL return on 27JUL with no hesitation (so I assume it’s standard policy). Return availability seems to be dwindling fast. Our outbound ATL>LAX is day after tomorrow 22JUL and seems to have plenty of availability so I’m optimistic we’ll both get comp UGs to F, and we won’t need to burn RUCs (but now that I just jinxed myself...).

Have you looked at flights to KUL, SIN, or BKK? You maybe able to find J flights to those cities. Flights to PEN from KUL are very cheap. You can make two trips out of it!
