i guarantee everyone who is telling OP to "chill out" is doing so for partisan reasons.

why don't they try to imagine if the captain's jab had been aimed at republicans?
Not me ... I think it's irrelevant who it was aimed at. I think it is a banal complaint.

As some OMNI'ites know, I am rather partisan. And I'd be offended whichever party the pilot referenced. (in fact, I'd probably be more offended if it he came out in favor of the party towards which I lean than if it was in favor of the other party).

It is completely inappropriate and unprofessional for him to make blatantly political statements his passengers while in uniform responsible for their safety. It calls into question his judgment, attitude and competence and deserves, at a minimum, a very severe reprimand and notation in his permanent record.

Does anyone know if it violates his terms of employment? With many companies it would.

Second, I don't know of any other Democrat in office today that can and does routinely screw up air traffic when he travels as much as this one. I have been victim of this on more than one occasion this year.

And, as for being "partisan" he did remind everyone to vote on Tuesday and that hardly is partisan, its good citizenship.

Finally, I thought Delta had a policy that flight crew was supposed to keep customers informed in the event of a delay and be clear as to why the delay is or may occur.

This was my first delay. that I have ever experienced, for a POTUS. (non Delta status/mileage run, and RDU-JFK was delayed on takeoff due the JFK ground stop. So, I think it would be unfair to call it an Obama or a democrat thing, unless he was getting a haircut, a I think Bill C did at LAX once.

It was Obama. I got the below email from the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Even so, there are rarely delays for scheduled air carriers due to flight restrictions for the president. They are usually exempt from the TFR (temporary flight restriction). Could be something minor due to increased workload for the controllers or perhaps if you're actually trying to fly in when Air Force 1 is leaving or something.

I'd also note that the TFR was up for only 1:15, which is pretty short in my experience.

Absolutely write this 'good 'ol boy' up!

I had a 'good 'ol boy' on CO flight lecture us in his loooong drawl about how we should all be watching FOX News on our DirecTVs, and listening to "Glenn Beck and those other great men"

I wrote up that bumpkin a few minutes after landing.

And if it were an FA....?

So how many of you cry babies say anything when FA's have buttons on expressing their political or union views? None I'd say and I've seen that a million times. Also, FA's never seem to have a problem venting to a passenger if any attention is shown at all. If it were a comment about GW (and I was not a big fan) none of you would be saying anything.

There are many mainstream companies that express political views (CNN, MSNBC and perhaps FOX - if one counts Beck and Hannity...however Fox news is fairly balanced) and some even use public money (NPR). So please, get over yourselves. The world will be back on track come Tuesday evening.
:p

I've never seen a FA with a political button. If I did, I would report it. Political displays or political proselytizing at the workplace, especially around customers, is verboten.

This pilot needs to be written up and counseled to keep his opinions to himself.

I don't disagree but I think verboten is a bit strong. Unprofessional and subject to corporate policy yes but I think back to my days as a student and I distinctly remember many in Academia being very vocal and borderline forceful with Political view. Personally I do not feel it necessary to wear my political leanings on my sleeve ever and none of the banter, on either side, really bothers me at all.

Academics are not in the customer service business.

I don't know, I paid a lot of $$ for A product.....same general idea but we can agree to disagree on that.

Well first off, I've never seen a FA express a political opinion. I would imagine a FA would be expressing a political opinion to a single passenger or a very small group of passengers. That takes it to a bit more personal level as a FA-to-passenger relationship. It's really based on the passenger's opinion on whether they take it as a friendly conversation and it's acceptable or still expect professionalism and get offended.

In this case, it was a pilot intercoming to 120+ passengers and 3 other FA's.

I agree that it is unprofessional to encourage one political party over another, but calls into question his judgment and such with respect to his handling of an aircraft because of how his politics lean and what he chooses to say about them? Please... mountain out of a molehill
