Yes, this is from a US account.

TravelinSperry Jan 22, 2025 6:38 am

HSBC UK is also making the change to a new qualifying tier, but it is higher than the USA (£100,000). In the USA you get extra time to qualify if your accounts are old(er).

Does anyone know if the UK offers any such "grace" period? They do not discuss what happens if we don't qualify.. are we dinged a mo service fee or is our acct closed?

Thanks

Has anybody holding this HSBC US World MasterCard been charged the annual fee and successfully gotten it waived? My anniversary date is coming up next month.

Blackheath Feb 14, 2025 10:42 am

I canceled mine just before annual fee posted.

Not worth the fee IMHO. Benefits are mediocre.

psiachp Feb 16, 2025 7:15 am

Also got hit with an annual fee so I need to cancel. Does anyone know if we can keep the HSBC points outstanding or do we need to transfer them to e.g. Avios to prevent them from going unused?
Speaking of Avios - there was a post here: https://www.headforpoints.com/2025/0...ge-2/#comments claiming a 25% transfer bonus but I tried moving a small amount of US HSBC points and didn't see a bonus post.

The bonus generally runs as a 30 day period. It's not active at the moment. I usually see it appear towards the end of the year.

As for benefits, just saved another $150 booked via Agoda and the HSBC 10% off discount. I also use(d) the Hertz CDP in Australia, NZ, and Italy and it saved me a bunch. In fact, in NZ it saved so much, I almost thought I had a corp HSBC CDP (rather than leisure). But I didn't - great CDP in certain countries.

HSBC, Hertz CDP and the $60 cable credit leaves me with plenty of benefits above the $95 af. So i will renew whenever the fee hits.

My annual renewal just billed. I am on the fence keeping it with the $60 streaming credit to diversify my credit card issuers.

Did anyone had success in getting a retention offer or statement credit from HSBC ?

HSBC USA transfer bonus to Avios

Transfer any amount of Points to partner frequent flyer programs, including British Airways Club, AerClub, and Club Iberia Plus and get 25% Bonus Avios now through April 30, 2025.

TravelinSperry Apr 16, 2025 9:14 am

Avios 25% bonus came early this year - nice to see

Is this the best use of HSBC points? Transferring at 1:1.25 Avios? I can't think of anything of better value (I think for cash trip redemptions these are worth 1.25c US, so if you value an Avios at more than 1c US, seems the transfer to Avios with bonus is best?)

gudugan Apr 18, 2025 11:38 am

Yeah I think Avios transfer bonus is best (same with Bilt for now).

I transferred 128 HSBC points (not 128k) and got a bonus of 32 Avios. Hahaha

Looks like I'll follow suit too despite there's no BA service in and out of YOW. :(

There's currently no oneworld service out of YOW, either.

Note that BA Avios can be transferred to Finnair Plus and to Qatar Airways Privilege Club, either of which might offer more favorable redemption rates than BA does.

AA offers service from YUL, ART, and SYR (among other airports).

Oh yikes, thanks for the heads up. Figured I gotta do something with my points or lose it when I lose my HSBC US account/credit card :(

So... transfer point to BA Avios and then to Finnair Plus/Qatar Airways Privilege Club and just bite the bullet to drive to YUL and fly outta there? :( I guess ART is a possibility too... we've done that and there's free parking!

Yes, you can do that. Just be aware that because AA offers "dynamic" award pricing for its own flights for AAdvantage program members, not every AA flight will be available for redemption with Avios. And AA award-seat available with Avios varies from one Avios program to another.

Finnair Plus claims that awards on AA include connecting flights at no extra charge, but some FTers have reported problems with getting those free connections when redeeming Finnair Plus Avios on AA.

The best value for Economy Class redemptions on AA with Finnair Plus Avios (assuming that you get the free connections) would be from Canada or the Mainland U.S. to the Caribbean, Central America, or Hawaii:

(Redemptions to Europe might have hefty carrier surcharges; redemptions to Hawaii, the Caribbean, or Central America probably won't.)
