Interestingly, my Accor transfer (of a full 100 points, just to extend expiration) posted as coming from “STANDARD CHARTERED BANK INDIA.”

Not what I was expecting, and perhaps says something interesting about how they’re processing these on the backend, but very handy to have an Accor transfer partner at a vaguely reasonable rate (1 Accor point = EUR 0.02, so 1 HSBC point = EUR/USD 0.01).

I'm thinking of cashing out of HSBC. Got a ton of BA miles so can't see much reason to transfer to them Are Lingus, Qatar, or Iberia. Turkish and AF are easy to get via points with Chase, CapOne or Citi so does anyone have thoughts about better to move them to Qantas, Emirates and Air Portugal which have better transfer ratio or alternately EVA Air?

I see that HSBC has agreed to sell their profitable Canadian business to RBC. Unlike in the USA there is no indication that Premier customers will be retained by HSBC:

I'm sure many of you know this, but the HSBC Premier card gives 10% off hotel rates at Agoda. I've been staying at more independent hotels lately and am finding this benefit to be of great use. It beats hotels.com and booking rates 90%+ (inclusive of the 10% off). Booking owns agoda, so it makes sense agoda -10% always beats them. You can of course beat that by playing the cashback + loyalty program game at hotels.com, but I'm just as happy to get my discount upfront and lose out on the cashback. ymmv, but it's worth a look-see imo.

Very interesting benefit I just saw for all World Mastercards:

Peacock

Get $3 off Peacock Premium each month when you use your World Mastercard to subscribe.

Anyone ever used this benefit and see the credit on their card?

Have not noticed that before. It does have some terms (see below) but looks to be a broad benefit for any Mastercard World or World Elite card. Here is the link.

Details of the offer:1. Peacock
Ends 3/31/2025, subject to early termination. Must use qualifying Mastercard World or World Elite credit card and subscribe to a full-priced Peacock Premium plan directly from Peacock to receive a $3.00 monthly statement credit. Statement credit ends when user no longer meets eligibility requirements. Excludes current Peacock Premium and Premium Plus subscribers. Additional eligibility restrictions, exclusions, and terms apply. For full terms, see www.peacocktv.com/offer-terms/mastercard.

Actually the World Elite offer is better, as the credit applies to the base Peacock subscription whereas the World card (which is what HSBC Premier is) offers $3 off solely the premium level. I was just wondering if it works since it's not really an HSBC offer - but rather a Mastercard World (and Elite) offer. I suppose they know what they're doing so I suppose it'll work... just would love to hear a successful data point.

It appears there has been a significant devaluation for miles for conversions for British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus (all went from 1:1 to 1:25 to 1). However, from Dec 7 to Jan 3 2024, they are offering a 25% bonus transfer so at least it gets us back to 1:1 for that period.

"Get 25% Bonus Avios when you transfer your Points

Transfer your HSBC Points to Avios through Rewards for Miles and receive 25% Bonus Avios December 7, 2023 through January 3, 2024.Avios is the reward currency for British Airways Executive Club, AerClub and Iberia Plus frequent flyer programs.

You can transfer any number of Points you have available and redeem for reward flights, cabin upgrades, hotels and more.
The promotional period for this offer is 12/7/2023 to 1/3/2024 11:59p.m. ET. Eligible Cardmembers will receive 25% bonus Avios for HSBC Elite World Elite Mastercard® or HSBC Premier World Mastercard® Credit Card Rewards Program Points transferred to Avios during the promotional period. Bonus Avios will be awarded separately from the original transaction and will be credited to the customer within 7–10 business days.

DP - transferred HSBC points to BA Avios during the 25% bonus period. T&C's say "Bonus Avios will be awarded separately from the original transaction and will be credited to the customer within 7–10 business days."

However, I received the base transfer and 25% bonus miles immediately.

Do you need a SSN for this one if you're a global premier with a checking account?

The earn rates on this one aren't great, but it is $0 and could be good to build credit to an ITIN and use when a US billed card is required.

When did the earn structure on both HSBC USA cards update?
  • The HSBC Premier gets 3x points on gas an groceries, 2x on travel, 1x on everything else. Points are worth 1.2cpp when redeeming for travel.
  • The HSBC Elite gets 5x on travel, 2x on dining, 1x on everything else. Points are worth 1.5cpp when redeeming for travel.
I had the HSBC Elite several years ago but canceled when they nerfed some of credits. At the time the earn rate wasn't competitive at all. However, 5x on all travel seems nice. I'm guessing the provided Priority Pass also includes restaurants unlike AMEX, Citi, and Capital One.

Anybody have the HSBC Elite? Is it worth picking up?

3x gas and groceries. That's really nice. Becomes my #1 card for those two categories now. Plus I swapped my cable/internet bill to them as they now give a $5 monthly credit for it. Love to see cards that give rather than take away.

Yep, I was surprised. I canceled my AMEX Gold as the AF was too high for my modest grocery spend. However, since the basic HSBC Premier card is no AF I'll take 3x on gas and groceries. The HSBC Elite is interesting at no other card has 5x on "travel" from what I've seen. AMEX Platinum is 5x on Airfare. Other cards have 5x or better but only if you book through their portals. Having 5x on things like taxis, cruises, and hotels is nice.

Seems like the basic Premier MasterCard now has a $95 annual fees... Anyone got notice about what is happening with existing cardholders? The card used to be no AF...
