Free card, 5000 miles is a good deal. Take it and cancel before the end of the year.
US Bank is evil. But if you get the miles, no reason not to do it.
Just keep a copy of the offer. You may need it in order to ever get your miles.
I signed up for the NW Visa over the summer with a 25,000 mile promo -- 5000 miles at 1st purchase, 5000 for spending $500 with NW, and 15000 for keeping the card 15 months. They'll get 2 years of the card out of me for $55/yr.
Of course, that second 5000 miles have been a bear to get. I had to fax the original offer twice, including the second time with a copy of their letter in response to the first one in which they promised the miles would post.
I've now faxed the original offer to about 100 people..

Gleff,
Wow! You were completely right about US Bank. I must say that I initially processed your post with skepticism (my apologies). I thought that perhaps people who have had bad experiences with US Bank signed up for offers they did not receive, etc. I decided to sign up for the WP US Bank card offer I got in the mail (5k bonus miles, no fee first year). Today, I got the card and it stated the annual fee was $55. I thought this was a mistake. I called customer service and they told me that I have to pay the annual fee. Alternatively, I can dispute the fee, but they would have someone call me in 48 hours and would not remove the fee immediately. Thats inconvenient and after what you posted about US Bank, I have little credibility in what they will do. Thank you for steering me clear from them, and my apologies for not heeding your advice in the first place. US Bank is worse than the car dealershipthey bait and switch you, and there is no one staffed at 6:00 EST to assist your appeal. What a joke!
I cancelled my card and will never do business with them.

Just another viewpoint ...
I've never had a problem with U.S. Bank. I signed up with a 10K bonus from the web and and 3K by using auto-debit. I received the bonuses within a few weeks and I've never needed to call them.

18 months ago I signed up for a WP visa Check card from US Bank attracting 4K NW miles. What a train wreck - I won't relate the story but it took a year to get the points after much major hassle and I cancelled the card forthwith. Disgruntled, I also replaced my US Bank WP Visa business card with the *wood Amex, and am currently looking for a replacement for my US Bank WP Visa Signature card. The $90 annual fee is too much in this competitive marketplace and maybe its time to migrate to AA anyway.

called to cancel my WP Visa. They offered me a no annual fee version. 1 mile per $2 of charges, plus 1000 miles to convert. I'll wait for the 1000 miles to post, then cancel the new card.
The other maneuver I successfully accomplished was the autopay bonus. Once it posts to your WP account, call CS and have them turn off the feature on your VISA account. Wait for the next solicitation in your monthly bill and sign up again. I received this bonus 3 times in one year.

The auto signup for Idine only applies to people who've never enrolled for Idine. So if your WP Visa is currently attached to another Idine airline (not NWA), nothing will change.

ss315, just so you know, I got the same 1st year fee waive, 5K miles and companion certificate offer, and it is a legitimate offer. The card carrier shows a fee because it is a fee-based account. But when I got my first statement, it showed that the fee was waived for the first year, just as the offer stated. you cancelled your card too soon, my friend. Now you won't get the companion certificate or the bonus miles. I have many friends who carry the WorldPerks Visa nd they have nothing but good to say about it.

Ok, perhaps I gave up too soon. But it is surprising that customer service told me that I had to pay the fee. I eventually cancelled because I could not get customer service to confirm that I did not have a fee. In this case, US Bank lost a good credit card customer because of their incompetent staff.

I have had my WP Visa for several weeks and I'm awaiting the $129 companion fare I was promised. Has anyone received this? If so, when/how do you get it? I thought it might be in my first bill but wasn't.
I have had no other problems with them. My miles posted promptly and the first year seems to be free as promised.

hi!
regarding teh 129 companion fare cert...if you trry to use this, do they end up hicking up the first passengers fare in order for it to "even out" in the end? Or is it a true 129 fare that has nothing to do with teh toehr person's fare? did I make any sense? lol
