Approved for the "lesser" card

I applied for the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature card at the beginning of the month for the 25,000 miles it came with, and I was approved. Upon receiving the card today, I noticed what they actually gave me was the Platinum Plus version, which only comes with 5,000 miles upon signup. For that amount, I would not have bothered with the card. I know some other banks like Barclays might do something similar.

What's the protocol here? Do I call Bank of America and explain that this isn't the card that interests me? Should I just close this card and try to reapply for the Visa Signature version in the future?

I appreciated any advice, especially since I couldn't really find what I was looking for on the search.

The only difference between the two cards (approval wise) is the assigned credit limit. If your credit limit is under $5000 you get the Platinum. Call customer service and ask for reconsideration on the credit limit. If you have a good case for it you should not have a problem. Easier to get limit increase than turn decline into approval.

I was approved with the Platinum Plus card with a $5000 dollar limit. Will asking for a higher limit automatically get me the Visa Signature version and the signup bonus for it?

Did it specifically state with the mailing that you will only get 5000 miles? I don't know how BoA works, so that might be the case.

My own experiences with Citi; I applied for 2 Hilton cards and got the gold instead of signature versions. Regardless though I received the sign-up bonus that I applied for.

I cant speak for the Alaskan Airline card, (But with the Hawaiian Airlines card) I know with BofA if you are approved for a credit limit below $5k you wouldn't receive the higher bonus. I've even read in other post that even if you are able to successfully get a recon, you wouldn't be able to get the higher bonus.

My wife was approved for the BoH/BofA Platinum card.. We called the recon and asked to increase the CR to 5K so she can get the Visa Signature.. (35K bonus).
Approved after the call.. got the bonuses as well..

OP should probably call now. Calling it late might make this a CLI instead of an approval with higher limit.
