I'm in need of a new rewards card since my Citi Amex bonus points are going away and they are not going to waive the annual fee.
Is the Schwab card still even available to new customers?
Is it significantly better than the Fidelity 2% card?
For the Fidelity card, I can just open up a MySmartCash account with a low starting balance, have Fidelity convert the rewards points to cash back which transfers to the MySmartCash account and then I can take it out any time?
Is that pretty much it?
Any negatives for this card?
Do they tax the rewards that go into the MySmartCash account or only the interest on the rewards?
Any other cards? I'm pretty much looking for either maximum cashback or points that have "usable" rewards that will get me 100 points to the $1. Annual fee is ok if the extra points make it worthwhile.
Airline/Hotel miles/points doesn't really interest me that much.
Thanks!

Fidelity has two free cards, AMEX that is 2% and VISA that is 1.5%, switching to 2% after $15000 is spent (every year). Schwab is a 2% VISA card. AMEX is accepted in fewer places, which may be a factor.
Otherwise, Fidelity works as expected. You can set it up so that earned points automatically transfer to your Fidelity account. AFAIK, credit card cashback is not taxable (treated as a refund).

I'm fine with an Amex. That's the card I'm replacing.
So the MySmartCash account is just a basic no-fee account that I can leave almost no cash in? I can redeem the cash as soon as it's transferred from the Fidelity Amex account?
If I don't auto-transfer, are there any decent 100 points to the $1 options for flights/gift certs/etc by just buying with the points?

I love my Fidelity Amex card - highly recommend it to everyone that I know. Just wish they would tone down the bright green color a bit. Originally Posted by FreFly

Fatwallet is reporting that the Online Application for the Fidelity Investment Rewards Amex and Visa no longer seem to work. The Retirement Rewards and 529 card links still seem to work though.
Online Applications disappearing has an eerie similarity to the Schwab card's initial movement towards doom. The cards are still shown on the site but when you hit Apply Now you get an error.

FWIW, I did apply online for the Fidelity Investment Rewards card late last week (I think Thursday) and received the card today.
Anyone tried calling the number to see if you can still apply over the phone?
Wonder if I slipped in right under the deadline.
I sure hope they don't decrease it from 2% anytime soon though.
