Double miles question

I want to book an EWR - LAX trip this weekend to take advantage of the double miles before it expires on June 15. I can go out for about $300 but I have to stay 2 days. Does anyone know if I can fly out one day and come back on the next flight back flying standby if seats are available? Or will I get stuck with change fees or worse yet full fare on the return?

Anyone ever done this...any luck?

No. SDC will allow you only flights within 24 hours of your originally ticketed flight. You will also need to call within 12 hours of your desired flight's departure time.

Fare rules from LGA might be friendlier given the additional competition.

SDC stands for Same Day Change. More details can be found here.

Just to be clear, the double miles promotion is for double elite qualification miles, not the regular miles you redeem for upgrades/reward travel.

The best option for you is to take the flight from Washington (DCA). DCA-EWR-LAX on Saturday (both L fare, 3169 EQM), and then LAX-EWR-DCA (also L) back on Sunday morning. $218.40 all in.

I guess there is some special free teleporter available to get one from EWR to DCA to start this run?? Even doing BoltBus and Metro figure some decent positioning costs to make it happen.

Positioning of about $100, even on Amtrak ($72 for some trains) Considering the flight is significantly cheaper than anything close to EWR, overall it's money well spent - and gets 500 elite miles.
