Some highlights (from memory, none of these are actual quotes):
  • There will be no starnet blocking, award levels will be set at a realistic level so that no blocking is needed
  • There will be access to F awards on * airlines (again hints that levels will be high)
  • SWUs are being reconsidered in light of partnership with UA, one issue is that offering them for only the highest fares (like DL) may frustrate customers but offering them on most fares (like UA) would hurt premium yields
  • Can't give any info on reciprocal agreements with UA re. upgrades on CO, E+ on UA, etc, in some cases can't even be negotiated yet, will be a graduate process after October 25.
You forgot to mention the white van in Hoboken, that is where the focus groups test the new meals at mealtime

I can't believe that no one here has started a new thread on the turkey dog.

My sister and her friend had it on a recent IAH - SAN leg, and they reported that it was not enjoyable. But the jury is perpetually out.

Fantastic interview! Thanks CO Insider and fozz!

I've had the turkey dog a couple of times now and my only qualm is with CO Insider suggesting that it is somehow related to a kolache. When FAs starting handing them out saying "they're like kolaches", I stop telling people I'm Czech.

Based on the number of times he says "right" at the end of one of his thoughts I'm pretty sure it is him.

Definitely an enjoyable listen, though I am disappointed to hear that there has been some backpedaling on the LAX-HNL 73E EUA front.

During the interview, Scott talked about SWU certificates on Delta being an unredeemable perk that they'd probably be better off not even having. I really feel companion upgrades are about as useless given my stats over the last 8 years I've been Platinum. The process for requesting/processing them (R bucket released, eua list run, and the cabin almost always full well before t-2 hrs) makes the chances of actually getting on so low that it's barely worth it.

Like everything else in life this is very much a YMMV situation. I've received plenty of companion upgrades over the years, probably >50% of the times I've tried, though I don't really keep great records of them. Considering that when those come through it means that I get to sit up front, I'm really happy that the benefit exists. Even if it is limited in value, no need to cancel it. Let the few that do benefit from it continue to do so. Unlike the DL PMUs there is no special fare purchase required so there isn't really an "extra" outlay on the consumer's part to get the benefit. No, they don't always clear, but neither do my EUAs and there is no outcry to get rid of those.

I understand where CO Insider is coming from on the statement and it makes a bit of sense, but I also think that just about any benefit could be interpreted that way. The big problem with the PMUs is the fare minimums. UA's requirements on that front are much more reasonable.

The other thing that he mentions in the same vein is that CO offers the BF sale fares instead. In many cases the fares are comparable to DL's YBM fares for PMU usage but anyone can use them. Not great for folks traveling on business where the office only pays for Y and you want to upgrade, but reasonable for folks trying to fly up front at a reasonable price point.

Maybe I'm just jaded since I'm 1/10 this year and probably about 20% - 25% for the last 8 years. Going EWR-SAN on 6/6 (1726) with Ms. GadFly so I guess we'll see about that one but I'm not optimistic unless CO holds back a few seats for battlefield until t-1.

Seeing as how regular elites struggle with transcon upgrades, getting them for companions doesn't seem too likely. Still, I've gotten them plenty of times where there were others on the waitlist and making someone my companion moved them into a trump position. So even when F went out full the companion benefit has paid off for me. Not always, but enough for me.

Increase chances by flying through IAH or CLE on mainline.

I found it encouraging/interesting that Scott indicated he could "commit to" CO trying to have as many *A partners available for online redemption from "day 1".

UA can't even do that from day 4400+.

CO has always been a leader among U.S. carriers in terms of having partner award availability online. Perhaps only NWA was better in that regard.

That said, CO is extremely tight with its own availability, so they have much to gain by having partners up online. After all, what would the reward calendar look like if only CO metal were available?
