You could even go so far as to say that "free, unlimited upgrades" is an unredeemable perk when marketed to those in California. That doesn't mean the perk should not exist.

That was very funny.

It was a good interview -- thanks to the guys for setting it up.

And thanks to Scott for providing some substantive answers and frank views on what they do and don't know.

Looking forward to the expanded online partner rewards. It's a relatively cheap enhancement that dramatically increases the value of miles for reasonably savvy travelers.

I can not get the audio to play. Do you need to register to be able to play the audio? If so, I guess I will skip it.

No. It's just an mp3 download.

When I click on the link - I get a discussions page. Where do you click for the download.
Clicking on various links does not appear to work?

Right click and saving as target captured the file.

Depends on when you are trying to book. As noted in the interview many more seats open up closer to departure (and not necessarily within 6 weeks but even at the 6 months-ish window) so it can be gamed a bit.

I wouldn't say it's when you're trying to book, rather what and from where you're trying to book.

Chances of EWR-Europe opening in BF = Fair to Good
Chances of SFO-EWR opening up in F = Near Zero

Chances of a matching SFO-EWR-Europe opening up in F/BF = Even Closer to Zero

This is another one of those examples where CO works well for people in hubs, but for non-hub dwellers, CO doesn't always work out so well.

He gave a long-winded answer about Starnet blocking, an answer that, to be honest, made me pause.

Sure, there are no Starblocking plans - FOR NOW. But who knows what the future will bring.

Sorry to be a killjoy.

What scares me is the idea that they'll have the redemption levels 'high enough' that it won't be necessary. Yikes! UA redemption levels are relatively high and they do starnet blocking. What might CO levels need to be not to need it??

And Air Canada and US Airways have redemption levels in many cases below those of United, and do not do Starnet blocking. So UA may not be the yardstick.

Then again, this is the airline that brought you the more than doubling in price of a QF F award last year..

They have this thing about Kolaches in Houston...I don't understand it. When I moved there 10 yrs ago I didn't get it and I still don't get it. I can take them or leave them. I can't imagine that I would care for them inflight.
