CO to *A Gate Realignment Speculation/Confirmation Thread

Title says it all, boys and girls. Between some of the discussions in The Bx and some other places, there are the odd speculations here and there about gate and concourse moves and logistics/gripes/moans/complaints/sensibilities thereof. I thought all of the speculation would be better housed in one place, and maybe CO Insider could stop in when the details become public to tell us how far off or on the mark we are or were. A major airline switching alliances is something that should be analyzed to death and beyond, right?

So far in various places in the forum, I've seen various discussions regarding SEA, ATL, PHL, and a few other places. All ideas, rumors, confirmations of truth, and general logistical speculation regarding our future with gates, connections, gate neighbors, moving of various PC's and RCC's, and all that fun stuff should have a home, don't y'all think?

I guess I should have added a rundown of the speculation that I've already seen:

In PHL, it appears that CO would keep its gates in the D concourse (D6/D8), unless CO and UA/AC all move. Given that UA has a good presence in D, this would work for the shared ground handling that has been discussed.

There is a thread discussing moves in SEA that inspired me to create this clearinghouse of a thread. UA, US, DL, WN, and CO are all mentioned in there as candidates to move based on actions that AS may or may not want to take.

The Box had a healthy ATL discussion a while back, and two theories were advanced, both of which involving CO and the PC moving from Concourse D.

If anyone wants to add to these or bring their $.02 in from where they're based, let's do it.

At one time in PHX, CO was located in T4 with America West (now US Airways) since they codeshared. After the codeshare ended, CO moved to T2.

CO's been in all four terminals -- it started in the original terminal, T1 (now demolished), moved to T3 after that opened, moved to T4 for the HP codeshare, and moved to T2 after that ended.

UA is also located in T2 but doesn't have as many connection opportunities as US.

Actually, I don't think any of the alliances line up at PHX except DL/NW and US/AC:

*A: AC T4, US T4, UA T2
Skyteam: AM T4, CO T2, DL T3, NW T3
OneWorld: AA T3, BA T4

PHX is a tough guess...T2 has the RCC and that's the shared access point, but T4 is where the huge amount of connections reside. I've not heard/read any mention of CO flyers gaining access to US clubs...why they would want to is another point entirely.

I doubt CO will move to T4 anytime soon in PHX.

Wondering what the plans are for YYZ?? Shifting CO from T3 > T1 would have all Star carriers under one roof. It would also give CO customers great lounge access -- AC's Maple Leaf Lounges are amongst the best in North America.

D'oh. Will be corrected. Didn't read far down enough.

I think ORD is a no-brainer.

The DEN setup with CO in A makes sense and I doubt it will change, though I wonder if UA will move some flights over there.

What does everyone think about CO moving at SFO to more align with UA and the international flights?

Shifting CO to T2 would be the easiest move, since the cooperation is more with UA than US. US can stay hubbed in T4, and New DL can stay in T3 since their combination might result in more turns at fewer gates. It would be nice if AC could come to T2, but understandable if it can't due to FIS or something. Results below:

*A: AC T4, US T4, UA T2, CO T2
Skyteam: AM T4, New DL T3
OneWorld: AA T3, BA T4

I was told by someone in the SFO PC that CO would move over the UA terminal at SFO in 2011 and that CO was going to build a new PC over there. The PC and RCC will remain separate entities.

How about LAS. They recently opened a P-club near the UA gates and far from the CO gates. Hmmmm.

At IAH will UA move from Terminal A to C or E? Probably not. But, there has to be better than A. A is so

MSP - CO has gates E3, E7 and E9. UA has gates E6, E8 and E10. CO and UA are already across the hall from each other.

I think for LAS, CO is moving to the former UA gates. DL can't really move, as their operations require two widebody gates, which the 30-43 concourse has plenty of (D33, D37, D38, D40 can all handle widebodies). From what I've heard, DL will take over the entire left side of that concourse (adding D32/D34) to give them D32, D34, D36, D38, D40, D41 and D42 for their LAS operation. That leaves five gates on that concourse, of which 2 would go to Virgin America (to replace D32/D34), while CO would take three - most likely VX gets D31/D33 (shares a gate area) and CO gets D35/D37/D39 (shares a gate area). Part of the plan at LAS is to temporarily close the current NW/AA pier due to cutbacks at LAS, so from that, AA would most likely move to the current CO gates, and Allegiant would probably just use any unoccupied gate (since LAS is CUTE).

Given that the bulk of the cooperation is going to be international in focus and nature, I'd expect far more cooperation on gates, check-in areas, and lounges in overseas markets (and the U.S. gateway cities of each airline) than in West Podunk Airport of flyover country, at least initially.

Must sorta disagree here...PHL is not huge for either airline and it certainly looks like some synergy is in practice there already. My flight home from Do IV came into one of the UA gates. While I agree that the cooperation should (and probably will) filter downward from the hubs and hublets to the outstations, it looks like there are outstations practicing shared services already, unless that night at PHL was an oddity.
