Question Standby return on continental.com special?

If one purchases one of the continental.com special priced tickets (depart on Saturday and return either on Monday or Tuesday), can one standby -- and without any charge -- for a return flight prior to Monday? Presuming so, does one also get 100% EQMs for the segments?

Standby can only be done for same day travel (with the exception of the paid confirmed standby for redeyes). You'll likely have to pay.

I called to standby for a later flight today and was told I could not standby for later flights?! I travel on UA and AA any have never had a problem standing by for later flights.

Any advice?

Is there a paid same-day confirmed option if I can't standby?

You can standby at the gate for later flights.

Or you can pay $25 to get confirmed same-day change, starting from 3 hours before the new flight.

So, it is 9:45a right now and you want to get on a 3p flight; you can call CO to tell them you won't be flying this morning. Then at noon, you can try to pay the $25 to get confirmed. If nothing is available, you can go to the airport to waitlist.

BUT if there's no room, then you risk forfeiting your ticket, as if you can't get on any flight today, by tomorrow CO can tell you to take a hike.

The credibility of CO's phone agents is probably the worst in the industry.

Not sure if it's training, or the fact that many of them live in Texas, but it's a serious problem.

I don't get BS'ed or snow-jobbed as much when I call other carriers.

Wow.

Surprised you were willing to step foot in what apparently is a God forsaken place. Guess it was for a DO

Wow! Way to make a gratuitous slam there, Channa! Are you sure you don't want to call Texans mentally deficient idiots, while you're at it?

Perhaps the fare wschild purchased did not allow for stand-by of later flights. They would need to double check the fare rules.

Weren't you at the DO??? If so you could not say that. All the Texans I met were great...AND isn't it better they are in Texas and NOT India. Need more convincing...call UAL. Go Texas.

Back on topic: I would check with the GA at your destination. They can give you the scoop on standing by for the return and can probably tell you how the flights look. That is if they are anywhere other then EWR. As we know from the DO and from going thru EWR, they won't tell you anything, they'll just yell at you.

Interesting seeing as the last three CO agents I spoke with by phone were in Florida...Tampa to be exact
But they were just as good as other's I have spoken with in Texas and a couple of other locations.

Ciao,
FH

FYI: internal migration

Texas has quite a high rate of internal migration from other states, so the people you allege live in TX may very well have received education elsewhere. Also, if TX is such an undesireable place, why is the NE and midwest losing population via internal migration to TX and the south? If CA is so great, why is it losing population to AZ, NV, CO and ID (among other states)?

CO also has call centers in SLC and Tampa, so I don't know how you came to your conclusion.
