Exclamation Name inconsistantcies

I just finished booking a flight for me and my parents today on CO.com but had a bit of trouble adding my OnePass name to my reservation. When I created my OnePass account 3 years ago it seems I did not put my full name in as my name and instead put my preferred nickname. When I made the booking obviously I put my full name to avoid confusion with customs/passport control. Anywho, CO.com yelled at me because the name I put down on the reservation didn't exactly match the name on the OnePass account. Instead I put my VS number so I would still get miles, though I would prefer to change it to my OnePass number as it's my most used FF program. My question is is there any way for me to get miles to my OnePass account given this problem? I've tried changing the name on my OnePass account as well as adding a new traveller with my full name but neither way worked. I'll be grateful for any help as I don't think you can transfer VS miles to CO and would really like the miles!

These inconsistencies will cause you trouble. I'd call the OP service center and see what they can do. Since you created the OP account three years ago, I assume you have used it. If you haven't, it might be easier to set up a new OP account. If you fly with VS as your FF, it may be challenging to solve the problem when you return. I'd get the thing sorted out with Continental ASAP.

I agree with ContinentalFan, contact the OP service center, send them a copy of your birth certificate, drivers license, passport, credit cards, etc. etc.

If your first name is William and your OP says Bill, it should hopefully be understandable ... especially if you have credit card statements, etc., that say Bill with the same mailing address.

Otherwise they will ask you for legal documentation of your name change.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I've used the OP account for online shopping and codeshare flights but this is the first time I want to use it with CO metal, which is why this is the first time the problem's come up. And I'm hoping because my OP account says Mr. Nick W. Schumacher and my reservation says Nicholas Schumacher and they have identical addresses it should be easy to figure out. I'll try calling OP tomorrow.

Hello! I had a similar situation. I recently changed my name due to marriage. In order to change my name with OnePass (and put my correct name on my ticket) I had to submit my marriage certificate. (the rules for every airline / hotel / credit card are all different). No problem, I emailed the document and they updated my name. Small problem, since it took a few days I quickly booked the ticket and didn't realize until afterward that they misspelled my name on my One Pass account, and therefore it was imported onto my ticket. I called the service center who changed it on my account but couldn't change it on the ticket, I spoke to at least 3 departments who claimed that if they changed the ticket it would be re-booked at the new fare (?!) Since it was a small typo, they instructed me to just ignore it as no one will notice at the airport (this is what I did and they were correct) or to have it changed at the airport as only that department has the ability to make small changes like that without disrupting the ticket itself. We will see if my points actually post (my flights were just on Saturday and Sunday) My fingers are crossed...
Good luck with updating your name...

Be careful with names, it took me 1 counter agent, 2 TSA agents and 1 TSA supervisor before they realized Chuck is short for Charles, and then it only cost me SSSSSSSS for the next 3 segments.

A similar kind of thing happened with me. When I used to work for another company, the travel agency we used booked my tix with my first initial and middle name and my ID has my full name listed. I used to get the SSSS designation a lot until I had the agency change my name.

One other solution that used to work: Create a new account then later ask to combine accounts; however, just asking for a name change should work. It was no problem for my new wife a couple of years ago. A copy of your passport OR birth certificate might be required.

I'm dealing with a name inconsistency right now between CO and NW. CO has my name as "Mr John J Flyer Jr" and NW just has "John J Flyer". CO OnePass has been very helpful and communicative, and suggests that getting NW to add "Jr" (suffix) to my account should fix the issue (NW not showing Elite status). CO offered to remove "Jr" from my account, but suggested not to as "Jr" is part of my legal name.

Of course, fixing it is one part of the problem. The other is that I have an already issued reward ticket on NW, and my guess is that the name can't be changed.

Sorry to bump the thread, but Onepass was easily able to make the change via email and now I have my flight listed under my account!

Mine got fixed too. Northwest added "JR" to my name, and now I am able to see my NW reservations through Co.com.

Passport name

I'll add to this thread since it's recent and sort of relevant. I'm checking in for an international flight and see that they want my passport number and expiration date, which I don't have at work so I'll complete it at home. They also ask if the name on my passport matches the name they show, where they have my first name and middle initial together as one word. Is this the standard way they do things, so I can just say yes? Or should I say no, and does this risk opening up a can of worms? This is for the purposes of checking in; it's an award ticket from a partner airline, so I won't get miles.

Yes, for ticketing the first name and middle initial are combined, as are the last name and any generational designation.

Thought I would resurrect this thread rather than start a new one (FCTSTY will be proud).

The name in my passport matches the info in my OP account. My S/O's OnePass account has her middle initial instead of her middle name, will this cause an issue?

When I made the reservations I used the "Saved Travelers" method, choosing from the dropdown. Is a call to CO necessary?

I don't think the middle name is an issue. The first and last names are the key. My passport has my full middle name while my OnePass account does not have a middle name or middle initial. I've never had a problem with immigration in the US or any other country I've entered.
