Oh, and one other image I'd like to share from last night: FT Lurker, ConciergeMike, gbryan84, fozz, belynch, me (did I forget anyone?), and our six Blackberries at a table. (Scott6067 was an honorary cousin with his HTC.)
I don't think I've been in a group of that size without a single iPhone present since the thing was invented! It was great seeing so many of you last night. How great is that the MEX MR came out the same day of the DO? |

Docket call at the Harris County Criminal Courts building is an interesting experience... as is the scene by the elevators around 08:30. Everyone's desperately trying to cram into the elevators so they're not late for docket call (which can result in a bench warrant).

The family courts are the biggest zoo I've ever been to. I never knew that attorneys came in a floral-print moo moo variety. Some of the scenes in the stairwell between aggrieved :rolleyes:s were also quite :-:.
Criminal defense and family law attorneys are a different breed. Even in law school, you could kinda tell who in your class was going to end up going that route. In my view, both places are zoos. Sometimes I wonder what in the world the client was thinking when they hired their attorney. I mean, did the client actually want to win their case, or just spend lots of money, time, and aggravation just for the fun of it? |

This judge woke up on the wrong side of the bed. She asked the D.A. if he wanted to call another courtroom to see if a defendant also had cases down there and if the witness was down there instead of up here. The D.A. was working and kind of gave a blaise response and she gave him the most attitude I have ever seen.
Judges seem to forget that they are elected. |

Yes. Working in a small firm that primarily handled criminal and family was all I needed to steer well-clear of those areas of the profession. Those are areas that tend to flourish in a recession, though. :-:

Yes, but you need clients that pay, up front, with cash or credit card. Sending out invoices isn't a good way to stay afloat, since the clients tend to be, well, flaky.
