Don't change the door locks, just get them re-keyed. When we bought our house we had two sets of locks on the front door. Since I'm all about carrying the least amount of keys possible, I just had the locksmith re-key both locks for one key.

I have nice solid Kwikset locks and matching deadbolts on all four entrances.

What is the keying process like, and is it required? I would image every lock is keyed the same and they have to be keyed by someone (?) to be specific to me?

SIG P226. And I'd rather have locks on the door to slow down would-be dead guy so I have an extra second or two to react.

If you don't mind saying, what was the cost for this? I assume you called a local locksmith? I will lower the price by 40% to account for the California cost of living. ;)

Buy as many locks on same key blank(e.g. don't go mixing manufacturers) as you need, Lowes will re-key before you leave for a few dollars each. I bought a 2-pack and then had the extras re-keyed (all locks and deadbolts are the same). Might call to make sure they have someone capable there first.

Alternatively, one could have a locksmith re-key all locks. In my case - four doors to the outside - I wanted consistent locks.
