I'm watching Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. Visiting some of these places would make a great Do. We'd have to call it the Heart Attack Do.

There is a Google Map out there that someone actually updates with all of the places he has visited. IMHO, such should be a standard piece of Penalty Box reference material. The place in PHX that does chicken fried steak with two over easy eggs on top...

That sucks; too bad it wasn't CO and SFO station was handling them. ;) But I'm going to tell a quick DL shuttle carry-on story.

Wedding going on, around and at Columbia U, 2007. Think 116 and Broadway.

I pick up young attendee at LGA, arrived on Delta Shuttle ex BOS into the old Marine Terminal (which is soon to be vacated by them, BTW). Aside: A sucker for historical terminal structures, to me, the MAT's art deco and history still survives through the ding and disuse.

Get the young man to the hotel; he needs his backpack, remembers that he carried on in BOS, but not off at LGA. I call DL to find out if plane had been cleaned in LGA and backpack recovered: DL tells me go bugger off; that information is not available to the likes of me.

I call CO elite line, explain, they track it down for me while under no obligation to do so. Plane did a quick turn at LGA, back to BOS, with another quick turn and back to LGA.

We're in the downtime between service (I left for LGA right after) and reception. Wait for re-arrival time frame, run back to LGA, suck up to DL counter please please have the overhead around seat X (don't remember) checked for the backpack.

They do, find the backpack, which has logged three segments, we recover same at security, do the run back over to the reception, only miss part of the buffet, but are saved an hour or more of small talk.

Moral: Next time someone starts a thread that says "I just became Elite, now what's that good for?" Answer: You'll think of something.

I was just reading about that on a.net. Very interesting way of temporarily holding on to slots... I hope they end up canceling many of these flights as the NY area really doesn't need all of these pointless flights.

Same here, I thought it funny. I really hope they don't actually try and run this schedule.

You missed the Greasy Spoon Do in ATL and surrounding area. We had Waffle House (breakfast), The Varsity (lunch), and extensive barbecue (dinner). colpuck attended.

One should note that US is too embarrassed to note the aircraft operating the 0600 flight with an F cabin.

It's US. Of course this seems plausible.

Does anyone know what the story is on the DL's impending vacating of the LGA MAT?

It was announced in July or Aug, and had something to do with slot swapping with US, IIRC.

colpuck Nov 27, 2009 8:39 pm

for those who didn't count that's 22 flights.

They are going to swap terminals with US.

I looked at the thread when it first posted. Sounded interesting except for the Waffle House part. I really could go for some good barbeque tomorrow.

I think I know why I can't get a job. I still have something on my "while unemployeed bucket list." That's a trip to Rutts Hut for deep fried hot dogs.

LGA - WAS/BOS/PHL hourly is a tradition that goes back through PanAm, Trump, DL and US.

Waffle House had a surprising menu. I ordered only hash browns (and far too many at that). And finish off that "unemployed list".
