Let's just say my wife's school is on the receiving end. :td:

I'll move on to another school complaint (because I'm not going to air my teacher grievance here) - fundraising. Why is a kindergartener fundraising? Is she going to do a lot of door to door fundraising? No. I'm going to let her hit up one neighbor before the other nineteen neighbors do (we are on a kid heavy block), she can then call her god parents, her aunt and hit up her grandparents when they get here next week. Other than that, it's up to her parents to fill in the blanks. That's right, I'll be buying overpriced crap I don't need or want (or others don't need or want if I give it to them). So why not just ask for donations? I won't solicit for her because I don't believe in doing that. My parents wouldn't let me and darn it, I won't do it for her! Yes, I realize other mommies and daddies will take the stuff to their offices and pass it around. I don't care. Not going to do it (well, at least at Plus1's office; I could have mine order off the internet). I'm sorry, but that teaches what? Rant off.

Is it a public school? If so, then it completely blows my mind that they want these kids to raise money for their own education at that age. We pay property taxes for a reason.

I hear ya! :D We (as kids ) had to go door to door selling GS cookies. It always amazes me when I see cookie lists pinned to the outside of my co-workers cube. I get that times have changed - but with parent supervision "external sales" can still work when actually done by the child.

I have another co-worker who put an actual sign on the back of his laptop advertising his kid's school fundraiser - in MEETINGS!!!

A previous guest in my hotel room obviously used aerosol deodorant. My bathroom smells like a gym locker room as a result. I wish that stuff was banned. There's no advantage to using it, and it smells awful.

Yes it is and we pay a he!! of a lot of property taxes. There was a whole song and dance about budget cuts. You have no idea how ready I am to ditch public schools after 6 short weeks. I am so tired of getting asked for handouts almost every other day (no exaggeration) but having her ask - I'm sorry, it's just insane.

WWTBD?

DL Balance is 26k
CO EQM is 75k

Going to Chicago at the end of Oct to watch the Bears beat the Browns :p and I am debating whether to a) buy a ticket on CO or b) burn miles on DL.

What do y'all think?

I don't mind buying a slightly overpriced candy bar when parents put out a box of the things in the office, but I refuse to hand over $15 for a jar of gummi bears or the world's ugliest wrapping paper. I rather just donate $2-3. And kids soliciting?:td: I won't even do it for myself(that sounds weird.) If an organization I belong to sells raffle tickets or something, I just take a fair amount and buy them myself.

I consider that a big :td: (and you won't find me pandering for cookie sales in the box unless I have a garage full lol and that would just be directing you to the closest Randall's :p!)

I get that times have changed, too. I can understand the girl scouts selling outside of the grocery stores because that is a bit safer than going door to door, but they are still doing the work. My parents would allow me to come into their work place, but I had to do the selling during breaks (which I am sure was still  to the employees)

I grew up going to Catholic school in Chicago where there was mandatory fundraising, parent services hours, etc.

My dad just ended up buying me 200 bucks in chocolate bars every year!

:D

Wow. That's the kind of trashiness I would have expected from the ship channel/refinery towns.
