Nice. My mother is doing a group for the Play in 2010, and also did one for the previous two. I would at some point like to see more of Germany than just an empty concourse in FRA.

We may also build a trip to Normandy into this as that's been on my list of "must visits" for a long time.

In that case, I would recommend using Bayeux as a base; there are tours of the D-Day beaches/cemeteries as well as the tapestry there. As I recall, you get there from Paris by switching trains at Caen. Depending on what you want to do, I'd allot 1-2 days.

Any decent D-Day tour is well worth the effort. The cemeteries are awe-inspiring.

I would agree with the above, although I have not yet visited Vienna.
Normandy is not exactly in the same direction as the rest of your trip, but I would plan to spend at least 2 days there. If you are able, rent a bicycle and bike the region. If you speak French, even better. The area is built for bicycles and is fascinating. I will have to go back, 1/2 a day was not enough at all.

Good morning, Box.

Yeah! Back to school day for my children. Sanity day for Mom!

Looking out over those cliffs the American rangers climbed was awe-inspiring as well. I cannot imagine how people waded out into that water with hell breaking loose all around them.

As an aside, after seeing the size of a B-17, I cannot imagine how people climbed into them and flew from England to Berlin and back while being shot at for most of the trip.

I enjoyed Salzburg much more than Munich. The city is far more picturesque than Munich, and I thoroughly enjoyed just walking around and taking in the sights. The Castle is spectacular, and has great views of the town and foothills. Visiting the Augustinerbrau in SZG was definitely the highlight of the trip, though.

I guess it's more an issue of whether you want big city activities and nightlife, or a peaceful town in stunning surroundings. I think Salzburg is the most beautiful town I have visited in Europe (Prague and Edinburgh are close, but Salzburg is just jaw-droppingly gorgeous). Once I was there, I didn't want to leave.

Aloha box. The bay bridge closure thoroughly keruffled me (and my GPS) last night. I made it. I'm here. Off to have a  day of training.

The Bay Bridge closure did not affect the amount of people around in downtown San Francisco this weekend as much as I thought it would, but there still seemed to have been some impact.

This was my thinking. SZG is serene whereas VIE/MUC are much more hustle and bustle (MUC more so than VIE). I am very content walking the streets of a city and enjoying the sights and the surrounding countryside.

Continental or its partners serve these cities but do not publish schedules or fares between them
DOH !!!
looks like DL or US is in my future, unless I force something-RDU-SAV

The next time I get to MUC, I will go and see Dachau, which can be reached by public transportation.

Getting this new and exciting version of the GI Bill is gonna be tons of fun...how I don't miss dealing with the Air Force and the VA. It's worth the headache to potentially get a free Master's degree out of it...free degree...free degree...just keep telling myself that.
