Speaking of which, have I mentioned that I love the netbook?

What's with people in Boca?

Let's see ... this is the crowd on the EWR-PBI flights, no?

Do they actually bother to stop for that? I thought they just slowed down a little...

Boca is between PBI and FLL so they tend to split themselves between the 2 airports.

Most of the PBI flights have the Palm Beach crowd which can be just as bad. Being upgraded on EWR-PBI flights is, IMO, just as bad as sitting in the back because you have to deal with the self-entitled people in the front and the Kettles in the back.

WWTBD:

We're looking at a European summer vacation and so far I've come up with the following itinerary for a full two and a half weeks there.

IAH-CDG (3 days in Paris)
train to Bremen (1 day in Bremen)
train to Berlin (3 days in Berlin)
TXL-MUC (2 days in Munich, 1 in Oberammergau)
train to SZG (3 days in Salzburg)
train to VIE (3 days in Vienna)
train to Zagreb (2 days in Zagreb)
ZAG-VIE // VIE-IAH

I am trying to figure out if this is too much or if I should drop some of the train rides in favor of flying.

Trying to find reward availability is already turning out to be an exercise in futility. I guess I'll just wait until the *A entrance.

The train came to a full stop but it really was Middle-of-Nowhere, NL.

I've found that FLL flights have ther most wheelchairs required upon departure and the most aircraft healing* upon arrival. It truly is a miracle!

*Aircraft healing -- The absolute necessity of a wheelchair to get onto an aircraft, and the distinct lack thereof to deplane.

PBI is the same way. I've been on flights that needed 20+ wheelchairs and I've heard of flights needing 40+ wheelchairs. The FAs seem to be very aware of this miraculous healing as I've often heard them order a much smaller number for arrival.

I would spend 3 days in Munich and 1 or 2 days in Salzburg. There's much more to do in Munich than Salzburg.

The train rides you picked are all better than flying, IMO, given the length of the train trip and the need to go through security, arrive early, etc., at the airport, except maybe Paris-Bremen (I assume that's the overnight train?) which is an hour and a half on an AF ERJ.

Full disclosure: I haven't taken a trip of this sort for probably 14 or 15 years; usually I'm flying from place to place for business. I'm envious.

ETA: Is there a reason you want to go to Bremen vs. either Hamburg or just going direct to Berlin?

Maybe I'll walk with a limp and get myself a wheelchair for our IAH-PBI flight, you know, to fit in. ;)

It's worth a shot! ;) Although, in my (limited) experience, the crowd coming out of IAH seems to be much better compared to the EWR crowd. IAH seemed to attract a lot more vacationing families and a lot less self-entitled people visiting their vacation homes.

You should easily get a seat up front and still have a decent shot at a companion upgrade.

We'll actually be going to Bremerhaven (I just put Bremen since Bremerhaven isn't a huge city). My wife was born there but moved to the States six months later, so she would like to see the city and the hospital if it is still there, where she was born.

I've been to most of Germany multiple times and have visited SZG a few times as well. We may spend more time in MUC since I would like to spend a day at Bodensee. The main draw for SZG is being so close to Berchtesgaden and the salt mines (oh, and beer).

We may also build a trip to Normandy into this as that's been on my list of "must visits" for a long time.

Bolding mine; are you trying to go to the Passion Play?

My mother did Normandy this past summer. She said it was emotionally overwhelming between the cemeteries, the memorials, and the emplacements still on the beaches.

I'd spend less time in Salzburg. Munich & Vienna are much more interesting IMHO.

If I can get tickets, we'll probably go. I used to go to Oberammergau a lot when I was a child and made a few friends while there. We'd mostly be stopping in to catch up and enjoy some time together before going to Linderhof and Neuschwanstein castles.
