Good idea! ^

We won't discuss how late I stayed up last night updating mine, nor how it caused me to oversleep this morning and almost miss my LBB-IAH flight.

I made my flight though, and I'm so glad I did. It was oh so fun:
  • The CO counter at LBB was total chaos at 35 minutes before departure, due to a church youth group with about 25 people checking in for a trip to Italy. Most of this group was flying for the first time and they had no idea what to do, and they all had tons of luggage. And CO only has about 2-3 people to work the counter at LBB.
  • TSA at LBB has returned the half blind lady who yells "BAG CHECK!" on nearly every bag to the x-ray.
  • Elvis sat across the aisle from me on the flight in 12C. His wife was in 12B. She was reading a biography about her husband's life (or at least about the life of the man her husband thinks he is). She even had a Graceland bookmark and an Elvis/Las Vegas purse. Elvis practiced his songs while we were parked at the gate waiting for boarding to finish, and during the safety briefing.
  • We followed a 757 into IAH, and hit pretty strong wake turbulence right over Lake Houston as we turned onto our final approach. It was probably the most violent turbulence I've ever encountered, with the plane rolling violently left and right, and up and down all at once. The kids in the youth group all started screaming, and Elvis's wife started praying.
  • We landed safely, and as we were getting off the plane, Elvis told the flight attendant, "Thank you. Thank you very much, little lady."
  • The youth group, who had no gate checked bags, decided to reassemble about three feet off the ERJ, in the jetway, making it impossible to get through the crowd and up the jetway. Finally the flight attendant and a gate agent told them to reassemble their possy up at the top of the jetway.

Looks like the DO will be relatively small, but that's ok. It makes planning it that much easier.

Same here, although I've not tried Bolt. I've got Opera on my BlackBerry though, and it works really well.

I hate the mobile FT site. It really sucks.

Yes, I always use the FT full site on my BB Storm.

You have the all-fancy Blackberry - I'm trying to do full-function web with my 8700g (scrollwheel for up/down, ALT+scrollwheel for left/right)

I have had the Storm since it first came out, and if Verizon got the iPhone, I would drop the Storm in a heartbeat. I do not dislike the Storm enough to switch from Verizon to ATT, however.

I know your flight was probably a PITA, but you made it sound so funny!

I don't like the multi-year contract part ...

I'm a distant maybe. It's a $ thing (D.C. hotels not cheap) and not a time thing.

I haven't had a cell phone in my name in many moons.

When I need a new phone I email someone, they send me a .pdf with the  du jour and I send an email back and the  ferry delivers it, activated and synced a couple weeks later.

Fairfax Embassy Row (Luxury Collection, very nice) is only $125/night that weekend.

Lots of SPG properties in the area for < $100/night.

I noticed the price drop. It's more on the line I want to do something really stupid and that's to go on the *A DO and at the immediate moment, a day's hotel in DC takes away a day possibility from that. That reminds me to go out and buy a losing lottering ticket.

Well there's your mistake. You're buying the wrong tickets. :p

When I was in the private sector, this was true. In the public sector, not so much - the PDF I fill out says that in return for a heavy (~180%) subsidy to my service's cost, I will maintain a personal cell phone 24/7 that the State can use to contact me ...
