I was thinking "how much did your industry's conference suck that your non-attendance required refunding everyone's fee?" Also, "did you know that by the time you drive to RIC, deal with airport security, wait, fly to ATL, WAIT for luggage, get a car, etc, driving isn't completely unreasonable?"

When my mother and I went to ATL for hockey, the time added from the drive to EWR, the ground stop, the wait for Avis, and the delay on the flight home with the drive back to the Shore almost equaled out to the drive time.

I rarely do it either, but I also would have contingency plans in place. I also wouldn't risk it if I was the speaker at a major event. If I'm late for a random meeting no one will really care. If it is actually important I get there early.

And if you have the family along with your important business, you would think that there would be a value attached in getting Mom and the kids started on whatever they were doing while Dad had to work.

As a corporate trainer, there was only two instances where I didn't fly to my instructional site a day early:

1. I had to attend an event with former D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams the night before a class in TLH, and
2. The Director of Professional Services coded the start date of one of my classes in SFO as a Tuesday (normal) instead of Monday (client request).

Indeed, it is only an ~8 hour drive to ATL from RIC.

I was thinking that as well, but if DL honestly kept saying "another 45 minutes" I can understand why you're thinking of believing it. But, yes, he could have driven that night.

Or flown US. Or FL. Or UA. Or taken the ABQ donkey.

When I book a tight flight --> meeting trip I always have a back-up plan and make my travel arrangements known to the people I'm meeting with so they can be prepared for :rolleyes:ery.

There are times, however, when the travel Gods conspire against you. I've had some catastrophic fails due to the inability of the US airline infrastructure to deliver me at my destination remotely close to when I needed to be there. I've done my fair share of trips in vain.

Fare war brewing with AA?

Heads up, UA, US (and CO?) seem to have decided to p*ss in AA's cornflakes this morning.

Well, I woke up to a headache..

I have more stuff then can fit into my car and I don't want to put a hitch on it and tow a UHaul across the country. I'm going back through my possessions and getting rid of items based on current retail price and bulk/"Can I live without it?" factor. Anyone want a professional artists easel that extends to hold an 8ft canvas?

For that matter, it looks like none of my larger paintings are going (6ft - nothing too big). I wish I had the courage the take apart the frame and roll the canvas but I'm too chicken.

Anything good? Find a good ticket to FCO yet? :)

What do you need to know?

Nothing in particular. Was looking at doing IAH-MUC//LHR-JNB-CPT-DXB-IAH and was having trouble figuring out which category (or categories) that fell under. I would have to book it as separate rewards (IAH-MUC) and then LHR-JNB-CPT and DXB-IAH.

Meh...I broke down and bought it for $735.

Bast@rds!

The worst part is that I did not think to book it through the negotiator to get my 2% cash back.

Anyways, AA's looking like they want 3 nights mins...<sigh> what is the world coming to?

Do you actually want to stop in MUC, CPT and DXB? If not then you're looking at a US-Africa reward with a stopover. If you do want all three stops then I do not believe that it can be done reasonably with CO's program. You've got three one-way rewards there if you want all three stops since they are all different series (US-EU, EU-Africa, Mid-East-US).

Give it time, the stay requirement may go away. Future loads are way too light for the airlines not to be flexible.

My new rule for now is that i'm not paying more than $600 for a coach ticket anywhere, at least for personal travel. I suspect we'll be seeing a nice set of deals on the horizon with the way the earnings announcements and future bookings are looking.

The next six months should be some prime mileage running.

So, based on an article I read yesterday, US may go before UA. It seems like US has already leveraged all of their assets while UA still has a fair amount left.
