Yea. I'm in a general annoyed mood at the moment because of people dumping on me in the past hour for grammatical errors for a website I have nothing to do with. (yea I know, I should end with with) It’s like blaming me for something on co.com. Oh and elect in President-elect is not capitalized either so I'm not changing that.

I'm in Chicago about every month. What accent?

If you are referring to the "Mine-Swwwo-da" type of accent, that's Canadian, not Chicago ;) Most of the Canadian border residents sound like that ;)

Buffalo, Cleveland, and Chicago natives have the same type of accent, with the Chicago accent being the most "extreme." This accent often is referred to as the Inland North Accent. The short A's are pronounced in a more nasal fashion than the typical "Ah" or "AAh" that is typical of American English. The Cleveland/Chicago A is more like "eAh" as in the vowel sound in "yeah" - I am not sure what type of accent mark to use to indicate it. Not all people from those regions have a very pronounced accent, just as you find in places like Houston. It depends on how much of an accent your parents have and how much time you spend outside the areas growing up. There also are other differnences similar to the way Minnesotan's pronounce O's, but less extreme.

See, e.g., http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norther...es_vowel_shift

Minnesota has a Norwegian based accent. Toronto has a slightly Scottish based accent. Buffalo’s accident is Midwestern, like Cleveland but not Chicago, as it's much closer to the Midwest than NYC.

There is not a huge amount of difference between Cleveland and Chicago accents, but the two definitely are distiguishable.

I'll have to experiment. I just got a new 8830 this week and while at work, it was off by quite a distance. Of course, I do work in a black hole.

The Google maps generally work by using the coordinates of the cell tower that you're latched on to. That makes for interesting navigation in Manhattan, as you hop between towers rather frequently. When we were trying to get from IAH to the Box brunch my 8830+Google Maps worked very well, tracking us right down to Shade quite well.

Verizon wireless' system works well provided you have a signal. I loved what seemed to be an out of the way route but was a great time saver when I used it in LAS.

CBS 2 NY just showed video on a guy who misconnected in EWR last night because his flight from MSY was late. He said he was annoyed until he saw what happened on the news last night

My black hole continues at home as well.:D The closest it placed me to my actually location is at least a mile away and it was bouncing me around quite a bit. Fortunately, I know where I am.;) It did help me find my hotel in Virginia a few months ago.
